Reflux? help

Asking on behalf of ds and dil.Baby spitting out milk and crying, sometimes gagging and choking.
from dil:

raspy/ fast breathing like milk is on chest, bubbles out of mouth every now and again, gagging and re swallowing spit ups. ``mucusy poo, wanting to feed due to vicious circle, hacking at back of her throat, uncomfortable when feeding, wriggling a lot and grunting.
baby is 4 weeks.

Any suggestions and does it sound like reflux?
Only appointment wednesday.

Yes that sounds like reflux but can also be signs of an allergy.
Try to keep her upright as much as possible after a feed.
Tilt the cot up at one end if possible, it sometimes helps
Sleeping upright on someone will also help.

My 2 DC’s have been the same, DD just had reflux, DS has reflux & a dairy allergy

Be aware of dairy allergy.

Sounds very similar to my DS who had reflux and food allergies. Cutting out cows milk and soya and giving up on that unhelpful gaviscon for ranitidine then omeprazole was a good start.

thank you for the responses, I thought nobody was going to post Grin
I will pass the comments on.
I know that ds went out to buy Gripe water last night, to see if that would help.
I think I'll tell them to see gp before Wednesday if they can.
I've raised 3 and never come across this before, although obviously I've heard of it.

DD had bad reflux, her symptoms were vomiting after feeds, especially if laid flat within 30 minutes of feeds. A general acid smell about her. Also seeking to feed soon after finishing her feed - milk eases the acid symptoms initially and then it resurges so they end up in a vicious cycle.

Given the extra symptoms like the bowel movements I would be at the GP, ideally with a paediatric specialist. they will probably be fobbed off with infant gaviscon initially (no help for us) so I would go back within a week. Ideally I’d be asking for a paediatric referral.

Is baby breast or formula fed?

Sounds like a dairy allergy to me too, v common. Ddil will need to cut out dairy and soy completely, it'a pain as it's in so much stuff. takes 1-2 weeks to help but is AMAZING.

If FF the GP will need to prescribe the right milk.

Waitrose have a good free from section

Also second ranitidine and omeprazole.
