URGENT Ryanair help: wrong name

Booked £9.99 flights for a holiday and just went to add passenger info and realized that dd2 has a double barrelled surname on the flight. I have a DB name, not her. I am Jane Brown-Smith and she (and the other dc) are just Smith. I tried to change it but it says there is a fee of £114! I don't have that money :-(

Went on to the chat thing and they just keep putting up the info about how to name change (and pay the fee).

Does anyone know if they will let her fly like this? Any advice welcome.

Can you not cancel and rebook, or would that be expensive too?

flighthelpneeded · 16/11/2018 19:10

No, the same flights have now gone up to £35 each. Can't believe I've been so stupid.

Could you book a new flight for £35? That would be a lot cheaper than the change fee.

Well £35 is better than £114?

I’ve name changed before with Ryanair for free (and was shocked when they did so!) but I hadn’t checked in online yet and it was about 4 weeks before the flight. It was through the online chat, so if they’ve said no, then I think cancelling the ticket and just rebooking is your only option

Jeffacake · 16/11/2018 19:14

Who made the error? Did you input her name wrong at booking? Or did Ryanair make a mistake?

If you entered her name wrong then sadly they can charge a fee to amend it.

kingsleysbootlicker · 16/11/2018 19:15

It's usually better to ring them, they've changed names on flights for me before over the phone

LucyMorningStar · 16/11/2018 19:21

When did you but tickets? They give you a minuscule window of tine when you can change the name free if charge. Otherwise it that massive fee. You'll really be better off booking a new flight.

I've accidentally given my married name instead if my maiden name when booking and only realised when I went to check in online about six months later. Contacted them via chat and they said If I can provide scan of passport and marriage certificate they'll change the name for free, which they did! I was pleasantly surprised.

If you are on live chat you might be talking to a robot that is picking up keywords and spewing back the same response. Try calling them

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/11/2018 19:32

Might be cheaper to change their name by deedpoll and get a new passport especially if password is due to expire soon?

KatharinaRosalie · 16/11/2018 19:39

Now, just saying, not a recommendation, but due to stupid foreign authorities my kids have 2 IDs each in 4 different names (think: Smith, Jones, Smith-Jones, Smith Jones) and I always manage to mix them up. I've managed to fly numerous times with tickets and passports in different names, and not once has this been picked up.

flighthelpneeded · 16/11/2018 19:42

Panic over! I logged out of my Ryanair account and googled live chat. An actual person chatted with me (rather than the robot thing when I was logged in) and after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing he changed it for me for free. I'm so relieved...Thanks for all of the responses.

I've had a boarding pass and passport in different names. It was picked up on the plane as i showed my pass on entering and i was escorted off while it was sorted then let back on. It was their fault, my ticket was in the right name.

NicoAndTheNiners · 16/11/2018 19:45

That's good.
