He's 3 and a half. I mean almost literally everything . When he woke up this morning he immediately asked me how to spell morning. Is this normal?

Not normal in the sense of common but he sounds great. Enjoy the fact that he's interested, he might not remember everything but will absorb a lot.

Oh, he is, he's a lovely child. He does seem to be picking up a lot.

My mother always used to turn it back on me. “What have you got?” Wink

Make him use his brain.

We do that Smile Especially with the funny words!

Dd1 did that when she wanted to "play" on the computer and we had no child friendly games. Had the advantage that she learnt all her letters both upper and lower (and a fair number of words) very quickly.
She's a reasonable speller now, but not brilliant, so it wasn't a sign of anything except she found it interesting.

My 2.5yo ds currently wants me to tell him the colours of everything, loves me spelling things out and likes to point to the letters and loves trying to count (2,2,2,4,6 anyone? 😂)

It's how they learn.

If you want to develop the interest maybe let him play on reading eggs or teach your monster, or just keep doing what you're doing
