Help me be braver tonight please!

I need to walk down a pitch black country lane twice tonight. The train station is at the other end and I live on the lane. My car is in the garage so I can't drive. A taxi wouldn't take me its literally 500 meters.

But no streetlights, one lane bordered by fields and hedges on each side and two houses.

I need to walk to the station which i'm not so bothered about as I think there will still be dog walkers as it will be 7pm. Then I need to walk back about 11pm and nobody will be around.

Any hints or tips on feeling braver! I could take a torch but I only have a big flashlight (was thinking I could stash it at the train station and grab it on the way back?)

I have no neighbours to give me a lift...no family or friends in the village either.

I've done this before late at night and had friends 'virtually' walk me home, i.e. they've stayed on the phone with me for the whole walk, do you have anybody who could do that?

tAAC · 16/11/2018 18:00

Yes i'd thought of that but then thought about staying aware of surroundings etc. I think this will be a possibility

Or i'll just run the whole way back!

Use the torch on your phone? I live near a dark lane, and always use mine, mainly so that cars can see me.

Does your phone not have a torch on it? If not I think you can download a torch app (it uses your camera flash I think)

There wont be any cars, we usually get about 10 a day

Torch on the phone I can use!

March it boldly. Head up, grit your teeth and imagine something like it is a walk for all the times people treated you badly. Keys in your hand poking out between your fingers and feel the rage.

Yes Urban, I like that, have switched flats to Doc Martens!

How did it go? Did you feel ok?

Sometimes I walk back from a friend's house late at night and I use the torch on my phone because there's no streetlights on some stretches of the way. I phone dh and make him talk to me. And some of the way I sometimes run if I freak myself out!

Er, I live on a lane like this. We walk down it routinely after dark, don't bother with lights tbh nobody's else (even mine) are so bad. Just make sure you're aware of cars. & how much verge you have to jump onto.
