Why would someone not arrange collection of an item bought on eBay?

I had a bookcase for sale on eBay as a Buy It Now.

Someone - who lives a 2 hour drive from me, looking at her registered address - bought it and paid with PayPal.

I have sent a couple of messages asking when she wants to collect and even sent her a message yesterday saying that I would happily refund if she hadn’t realised it was collection only. A pain, but I’d prefer that than her stressing herself if she bid by mistake.

Anyway, I haven’t heard anything back at all. Is this normal? How long do I have to keep hold of it? (It’s especially annoying as 1) I want it gone and 2) someone else has offered to buy and collect this weekend).

How long ago did she pay?

Send a final message saying reply by x time or I'm refunding and selling to someone else.

She only bought it on Wednesday, but as she had to pay for it, I think it’s odd she hasn’t even sent me a message - or reply - saying she was working out when to collect. Do people really just not send any message at all?

Refund her anyway. If she does collect it, she needs to pay cash to avoid you being at risk of her not receiving the item and claiming a paypal refund.

She might be a bit slack and be planning to come at the weekend, but not got as far as arranging a time.

I'd message her and say that you've refunded her and she needs to bring cash and if you haven't had a response by 8 pm tonight, you will sell to the person who has said they will collect at the weekend.

This is one of the reasons why I don’t sell on eBay anymore - sh*tty buyers! I had an absolute nutcase last year buy a table off me, pay and then arrange collection. She said she was on her way and never showed up - twice! I refunded her and she gave me negative feedback saying I gave her the wrong address. Bloody weirdos!

Unless things have changed recently, you shouldn't accept paypal for collected items. You can easily be scammed by the buyer claiming item not received and you will have no proof of delivery so paypal will refund and you have no money and no item.

i bought a collection only item - small table, paid as soon as auction ended then forgot to collect it! seller didn't mail me again after i had send an email saying i would let them know within next 2 days dates i can collect to arrange a suitable time. Not their fault at all, i realised about 4 weeks later when i logged into ebay, sent an apology but never got the table, seller ignored me! they still left naice feedback though so I did too, was a low price so wasn't too bothered, feel bad though

Hyggehygge · 16/11/2018 15:45

Thing is, I did ask for cash on collection but I think (from previous comments by other buyers), you are now taken to a PayPal screen to check out.

Ugh. I think I may stop eBaying too.

And BarbaraofSeville I think I’ll take your advice! I just don’t want negative feedback!

I would personally leave it until next weekend for her to collect, 2 days ago is almost nothing. If no communication or collection plan by next Wednesday I imagine refund & resell.

Some people hate dealing with cash & Ebay can nag until something is paid, so from her point of view, she has secured the purchase & done everything correctly. But shouldn't leave seller waiting too long, either.

I never list anything on Ebay with plan to be rid of it quickly, though.

I had this, sent a few messages with no response. Sent a final message saying i was going to refund it and got a reply asking me to send a courier. I said no, so next they offered to collect it at 3am Confused i said no but eventually it was collected at 6.30am (unarranged). Cant say i enjoy using ebay that much anymore Grin

I would send one more message advising she/he has 24 hours to arrange collection or you will refund.
