Blocked ear... I'm miserable

Had a heavy cold and my left ear is blocked. I feel quite deaf in it and need to shift it if I can. There's a bit of pressure too. Anything I can try?

No nurse appointments until this time next week so no help there.

Thank you

Olbas oil works wonders - £3 in the chemist

Add to boiling water over night in your room
On inhale steam
Or both

decongestant nose spray (in the nose)

cstaff · 16/11/2018 00:05

Hold your nose, close your mouth and breath out a few times. This happens me and this is the only way to relieve it. Hope it works.

Thanks. I've been using saline nasal spray and Vicks but it doesn't want to budge.

Go get over the counter decongestant tablets. Sudafed or similar that should sort it. If it doesn’t make sure you follow up with a GP appointment but give it a little while to resolve.

As well as inhaling through your nose you can sit the boiling water & Olbas oil under your ear. You have to be careful not to burn it but it does work.

@cstaff thanks. It didn't help this time but I'll keep trying.

Sounds like the start of an ear infection!

QuestionableMouse · 16/11/2018 14:29

It doesn't hurt, just feels like there's loads of snot in my head still!

(Sorry)

I have similar in my left ear. Had it checked out and ear canal free of wax and given an antihistamine spray which has helped a little but not much.
Not in any pain but ear feels permanently popped. Will be giving these ideas a go Smile
