How do your kids feel about school? How do you deal with negative feelings about it?

Our 6 yr old has just started school and while I think he enjoys it in the main, he is very homesick and says he doesn't.like it and doesn't want to go.

Our feeling is that in the long term it will be good for him, but how do you deal with this kind of thing? I've been going along the 'jts hard adjusting to something new but you can do it' route so far, but how can I help foster resilience?

Are these feelings normal in kids do you think?

I explain that I have to do stuff I don't like (work, clean the oven, eat broccoli Grin)

Feel sorry for my two sometimes because it is miserable Sad

My son had this, was so unsettled at start of Autumn term. School were very quick to pick up on it and enrolled him on Elsa programme (google it, I believe it's offered in many schools...) it made the world of difference. Taught him how to manage emotions and control any anxiety he feels at school. After a month of once weekly sessions he was completely settled.
