dischwasher would not as interesting?

no socks chasing each other?

dementedpixie · 15/11/2018 20:23

I can see what item is stuck in the rubber seal and how filthy the water is when washing ds's rugby kit. The dishes don't move in a dishwasher so isn't as exciting to watch

JaiNotJay · 15/11/2018 20:25

That is an excellent question. Maybe it's because the window on a dishwasher would have to be quite big and all that toughened glass would push prices up too much.

BendingSpoons · 15/11/2018 20:25

A 1 year old? DD loved watching the washing machine at that age, although maybe she would have also loved watching the dishwasher!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 15/11/2018 20:28

A window on washing machines was introduced merely to increase angst, when you see a red sock in with your whites, and know that even by pressing various buttons to hurry or shortcut the wash the damage will have been done!

Icedgemandjelly · 15/11/2018 20:28

In Australia and America washing machines don't have windows as top loading. Possibly other countries too but I only know about them!
They are handy as you can throw things in once they've started but in my limited experience they didn't seem to wash as well.

ScrambledSmegs · 15/11/2018 20:29

I think it's because with a washing machine there is much more water in it at one time than in a dishwasher. So, if it conks out mid-cycle then you can see whether it needs draining before you touch the door lock override.

If you have a top loader you won't have that problem, no danger of flooding the room if you open it mid-cycle.

DonaldDucksTowel · 15/11/2018 20:29

And why washing machines and not tumble dryers? 🤔

ScrambledSmegs · 15/11/2018 20:35

And why washing machines and not tumble dryers? 🤔

Because of the heat?

PickAChew · 15/11/2018 20:36

Our tumble dryer has a window.

SweetPeaPods · 15/11/2018 20:37

If my washing machine didn’t have a glass door I wouldn’t have that moment of panic at looking at the washing machine mid cycle and realising I forgot to put the actual dirty washing in before I put it on!!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 15/11/2018 20:39

Our tumble dryer has a window.
So does ours.

The washing machine one might be for when you need to wash teddies and DC won't let them out of their sight?

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 15/11/2018 20:51

Maybe it's because socks and shirts etc have a tendency to suffer from clothestrophobia and need a window to look out of but plates don't care?

lucysmam · 15/11/2018 20:56

My previous washer had a pretty purple door window, you could see the clothes but not the colour of the water from a particularly mucky load.

I was horrified when I did my first load in my new machine, with clear glass door, at the colour of the water Shock.

My dryer has a window too.

headinhands · 15/11/2018 21:02

Slightly off topic but my dsis has a LIGHT in her tumble drier/dryer.

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 15/11/2018 21:03

@OutwiththeOutCrowd 😂

ItWasntMeItWasIm · 15/11/2018 21:04

I would love a light in my tumble dryer! It is on a cupboard with no light and odd socks fall everywhere when I'm loading and unloading in the dark!

whiskeysourpuss · 15/11/2018 21:05

I used to have a washing machine that didn't have a window... it was this one

QuestionableMouse · 15/11/2018 21:06

My tumble dryer has a light and a see through door.

I'm dead posh me.

BurtTyrannosaurusMacklin · 15/11/2018 21:10

Woah, back up a second... ScrambledSmegs, there's a door lock override button?!

lucysmam · 15/11/2018 21:13

@ItWasntMeItWasIm my dryer cupboard doesn't have a light either. I bought a battery one from Home Bargains for a couple of quid that hangs on the wall. Gives off a really bright light & the batteries have lasted well for pound shop multi pack ones.

BoringSoup · 15/11/2018 21:48

Our tumble dryer has a window. It’s a 20 odd year old Hotpoint, mind, but it’s still going strong.

Elfinablender · 15/11/2018 21:51

My tumble dryer has a window. I wish my dishwasher did as well now.

Sroket · 15/11/2018 21:53

Kitchen aid do a dishwasher with a window I just found out!
