I can see what item is stuck in the rubber seal and how filthy the water is when washing ds's rugby kit. The dishes don't move in a dishwasher so isn't as exciting to watch

That is an excellent question. Maybe it's because the window on a dishwasher would have to be quite big and all that toughened glass would push prices up too much.

A 1 year old? DD loved watching the washing machine at that age, although maybe she would have also loved watching the dishwasher!

A window on washing machines was introduced merely to increase angst, when you see a red sock in with your whites, and know that even by pressing various buttons to hurry or shortcut the wash the damage will have been done!

In Australia and America washing machines don't have windows as top loading. Possibly other countries too but I only know about them!
They are handy as you can throw things in once they've started but in my limited experience they didn't seem to wash as well.

I think it's because with a washing machine there is much more water in it at one time than in a dishwasher. So, if it conks out mid-cycle then you can see whether it needs draining before you touch the door lock override.

If you have a top loader you won't have that problem, no danger of flooding the room if you open it mid-cycle.

If my washing machine didn’t have a glass door I wouldn’t have that moment of panic at looking at the washing machine mid cycle and realising I forgot to put the actual dirty washing in before I put it on!!

Maybe it's because socks and shirts etc have a tendency to suffer from clothestrophobia and need a window to look out of but plates don't care?

My previous washer had a pretty purple door window, you could see the clothes but not the colour of the water from a particularly mucky load.

I was horrified when I did my first load in my new machine, with clear glass door, at the colour of the water .

My dryer has a window too.

Slightly off topic but my dsis has a LIGHT in her tumble drier/dryer.

I would love a light in my tumble dryer! It is on a cupboard with no light and odd socks fall everywhere when I'm loading and unloading in the dark!

@ItWasntMeItWasIm my dryer cupboard doesn't have a light either. I bought a battery one from Home Bargains for a couple of quid that hangs on the wall. Gives off a really bright light & the batteries have lasted well for pound shop multi pack ones.
