someone autistic probably.

adds watching washing machine to the list

7salmonswimming · 16/11/2018 01:17

window and curtain 😂😂

Have you seen those new fridges with windows? They’re bloody amazing, especially for those cursed with menfolk/teens who like to stand in front of a chock full fridge with the door open declaring “there’s nothing to eat!”.

AGHHHH · 16/11/2018 01:30

Most tumble dryers have windows! I've only had one condenser that didn't.

No they don't!

picklemepopcorn · 16/11/2018 07:29

I lived in a flat once where the tumble dryer was above the top loading washer, next to a sink, all inside a double door cupboard.

It was incredibly efficient and tidy. Loved it.

borntobequiet · 16/11/2018 07:41

I too once had use of a top loader with a mangle on top. This was in the early 1980s and it was my MIL‘s. It was great fishing out the boiled nappies (genuine boil wash) with wooden tongs and mangling them. You refilled for the rinse and remangled.

rslsys · 16/11/2018 07:48

Surely not windows but built-in webcams?
You could then sit in comfort and watch the contents of your appliances.
Better still, you could split-screen and watch ALL your appliances simultaneously!

I may be a bit over invested in tech . . .

PiperPublickOccurrences · 16/11/2018 07:49

No idea. American washing machines tend to be bigger and top loading. No windows. Just as efficient.

HoppingPavlova · 16/11/2018 07:57

In Australia and America washing machines don't have windows as top loading.

Confused Can’t speak for the US but I live in Australia and have had front loaders for over 15 years as has everyone else here that I know. The exception is my in-laws who refuse to move with the times and have a top loader although to be fair they have had it for longer than we have had front loafers and it’s still going strong.

We had top loaders when I was growing up but front loaders came in and became pretty much standard roughly 20 years ago. I believe they do still sell top loaders here but think only the oldies buy them so it’s a rapidly shrinking market.

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/11/2018 08:52

Why don't we have top loaders like USA and Australia

Not sure if the comment about top loaders taking up more space is the answer as UK houses are smaller and less likely to have separate utility rooms, but going off on a tangent, this differences between countries has reminded me that I've always wanted to know why Chinese takeaway in the UK comes in shallow foil trays with cardboard lids, but in the US, you get those square cardboard cartons with the folding tops (according to TV, I've never actually been to the US).

If anyone has used both a top loader and a UK style washing machine, which is better?

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/11/2018 08:53

Although someone has helpfully put a Go Pro camera inside a dishwasher and put the results on .

PiperPublickOccurrences · 16/11/2018 08:55

Last time we were in the States DH insisted on Chinese takeaway just to get the little cardboard cartons. He was gutted to find only the rice was served like that, the rest of the food was in plastic tubs like at home.

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 16/11/2018 09:07

Maybe because when washing machines were introduced many households still had a 'housewife' who was there to watch and admire the new gadgetry. When dishwashers and tumble dryers became popular household accessories modern life had become more hectic so we didn't need entertaining by watching the washing go around. I remember the fun that passed as entertainment watching the spin cycle slowing on the twin tub before you could take the plastic guard off and get the clothes out.

WeeM · 16/11/2018 10:01

My beko dryer has a window and a light, I didn’t realise this was posh-first one I’ve ever had Grin

But good question!

IJustLostTheGame · 16/11/2018 10:08

Maybe looking at grubby dishes whilst it's half full is grim so they don't put glass fronts on dishwashers.
I'd hate a glass fronted fridge. It would look messy. Although I'd probably laugh at the 'stunt wanketry' that would start on Instagram. All almond milks and organic things all neatly placed Marie kondo style.
Not a top shelf rammed with various condiments that may or may not be still ok to use.

Sounds exactly like our fridge. I've decided that my number 1 want for our next fridge freezer is a vegetable drawer big enough to put a cauliflower in.

If anyone sees a fairly ordinary looking middle aged woman trailing round the fridge section of Curry's brandishing a cauliflower, that will mean our 20 year old fridge freezer has finally gone to the great appliance graveyard in the sky.

BollocksToBrexit · 16/11/2018 10:16

It was decided by a Special Assembly of Feline Overlords.

BorisAndDoris · 16/11/2018 11:03

@BarbaraofSevillle I was once the woman walking around with a Warburtons toastie loaf sized piece of cardboard trying out all the toasters in Curry's. Turns out, there aren't many Warburtons bread compatible toasters as you'd hope.

When looking for my next fridge I may nick your idea of the cauliflower cos I hate that too. Mine lifts up the bottom shelf when I force the veg drawer closed with one in.

Valasca · 16/11/2018 11:09

I took these while in the states recently as I’ve never seen such giant fuckers (they have a blue glowing light on). Most washers were with windows. Only cheap models were top loading.

Boris

I have also done the slice of cardboard to 'try on' the toasters in Currys.

Even worse, I bought the bastard 'right size to fit Warburtons toastie bread' toaster with it's little taunting sticker of a picture of a Warburtons toastie bread wrapper on the side and it still doesn't fit, or toast very evenly - every time at least one of the 4 sides of your 2 slices of toast will hardly be toasted at all, And yes I do know that you're supposed to put the bread in sideways.

fakeplasticbush · 16/11/2018 11:39

Not just US/Aus. I live in another EU country and we have a top loader in the bathroom which seems to be the norm in all friends homes I've visited here too.

I'm converted. It takes up less room actually as it fits in a narrow space at the end of the bath (with the drum being effectively sideways to a UK machine). Top can be left up and kids throw mucky kits straight in as they get in the bath. No spinning noise in kitchen. No walking into the door that someone left open. No chance for inquisitive toddlers to mess with the buttons/door/climb in as that's all at top out of reach.

Who needs a window?! The only learning curve was how not to catch my fingers in the drum opening bit (it's got a wickedly strong spring close).

chemenger · 16/11/2018 12:45

Every apartment we looked at in the US has a cupboard with a washer and dryer, it’s not just huge suburban houses. I assume they are fairly cheap models mostly. This is ours. My only gripe is that because the apartment is open plan it’s quite noisy even though it’s in the hall, not the kitchen.

One of my DC who would otherwise scream if not attached to a human for the first 12 months of life could be put in a baby bouncer in front of the washing machine and left for at least ten minutes.

The inventor of washing machine windows saved my sanity.

EastMidsGPs · 16/11/2018 14:28

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername

This 60 something sobbed uncontrollably when her ThreadBare Bear distinergrated before her eyes as he swirled about in the washing machine.

DH replaced him with Caleb but he isn't the same 😞 has all his hair and both eyes for starters.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/11/2018 18:19

If dishwashers had a window we would see that the tablet simply plops out of the very fancy tablet holder and lands in the water at the bottom where all the manky food water is and does not get dissolved and distributed by the spinning arms, despite what we may have been led to believe.
