Tips for first time Uber user

I'm a bit of a country bumpkin and going to a city where I will have to get around a bit and they have Uber there.
I've downloaded the app and set up payment.
Any pitfalls for a novice user? Am I expected to tip?

No tip!

Wave at the car once you see it coming and when you get in say ‘hi, I’m Sunshine’

Driver will confirm your destination and that’s it! Easy as pie.

I usually tip some cash, but there is the option to tip later on the app. But not essential.

You can tip through the app after you get out, it’ll prompt you, but you don’t need to.
It’s super simple, make sure payment is set up, set your pick up and drop off, then hop in and hop out!

So if I want to start at railway station do I hang around near the taxi rank? Do I need the postcode of my destination?

At the station I would probably hang around at the drop-off/collection point rather than the taxi rank as Ubers don't use the taxi stands, but anywhere the driver can see you and safely stop is fine.

You don't need to know the postcode although you can use postcodes, but road name, house number and town is fine, or if you're going to a landmark or a station just type in 'London Bridge station' or 'St Thomas' hospital' or 'The Shard' and it should find it. Just check on the map the app brings up that you are going to the right place - in case there are two '1 station road, Smalltowns' or whatever in the area!

Thank you!
I know I could hop in a taxi but I thought it might be fun to try.

If your driver is struggling to find you, they’ll usually give you a call to let you know exactly where they are.

Good luck! Once you get the hang of it Uber is great. You know exactly when the taxi is coming, who the driver is and no messing around making sure you carry cash!
