I don’t know if the media are speculating or there is a chance she could resign later today. If she does, what happens next?

agree the people ive had the misfortune to be around all voted because of imagration, many were working class and this was the main gripe

i didnt vote as i didnt feel i knew enough

what a bloody mess

AdoraBell · 15/11/2018 17:29

My DH voted Leave because he feels ever closer union is not the right way to go. He’s educated, intelegent etc but the day he asked me why the NI border is an issue my jaw hit the floor. Some people have never thought about it. Maybe because it’s “other there”? I don’t know.

Years ago I was a buyers clerk and one US company regularly sent goods to Dublin. They actually told me on the phone that wasn’t an issue because Dublin was “just a little south of Belfast”. They would not accept that it is a separate country.

Wrybread · 15/11/2018 17:30

And ignoring the parts of the question about conservatives having faith in her

Minniemagoo · 15/11/2018 17:31

Omg she looks so nervous. Thought a lot of what she listed as 'achievements owed to the people' have f all to do with the EU, i.e.housing, health etc.

jasjas1973 · 15/11/2018 17:32

You are correct again Red

National interest... blah blah blah don't see the point of this press conf at all.

sunglasses123 · 15/11/2018 17:32

Does anyone think that Corbyn and his people would be better? I am very very nervous about this happening.

It doesn't seem so on this thread but during a GE? Would Labour really win? Would JC and McDonnell really be allowed to spend all that they have been promising or would they for the next x number of years blame the Tories?

Would the more sensible parts of the Labour party stop some of the daft ideas that JC and JM have?

Avegemitesandwich · 15/11/2018 17:33

The thought of the current Labour Party trying to do Brexit is quite frankly terrifying!

billysboy · 15/11/2018 17:35

I do feel for her she cannot see when it is time to go , complete personal denial

Avegemitesandwich · 15/11/2018 17:35

Why is it time for her to go? Who would do a better job? Literally who???

billysboy · 15/11/2018 17:36

National interest , national interest , national interest , blah blah blah

Just go !

MadeleineMaxwell · 15/11/2018 17:36

You first HighNoon Grin I'd cancel the damn shitshow and start again, kicking things off with proportional representation and handing Farridge over to the FBI!

RomanyRoots · 15/11/2018 17:38

Gosh, how many times can one person say National interest, protect jobs and security?
She gets paid for this.
We're doomed.

MadeleineMaxwell · 15/11/2018 17:40

Does anyone think that Corbyn and his people would be better? I am very very nervous about this happening.

Absolutely not. He's a curiously obstinate wet lettuce of the highest order.

As things stand, a new GE would probably result in a hung parliament again and we'd still be left in this mess. I have no party to vote for anyway. A new centrist-ish party, an anti-Brexit party, a Tory split - these things could change the political landscape and warrant a new GE. But I still don't think anyone would have much of a majority.

brizzledrizzle · 15/11/2018 17:42

I hope she doesn't. I can't stand her but I'd much prefer her to JRM, Gove or Johnson.

billysboy · 15/11/2018 17:44

I would have to ask her if " national interest" is being sponsored for how many times she can get the phrase in

PerfectPenquins · 15/11/2018 17:46

There is absolutely no one who could step into her role and not continue to fuck it up. Do you know what I actually think she's done the right thing not to run away? She has had a hell of a day today with the others gnashing at her heels and is still remaining resolute. She is doing what David failed to do and that's face up to the responsibility of her position. Even now there are still people moaning just get out and go for no deal. Im a remainer but there is no backing out from this.

oldmum22 · 15/11/2018 17:50

I have a lot of admiration and respect for TM and how well she fared in light of some tough questions. I may not believe in what she is doing but at least she is sticking with it .

RedToothBrush · 15/11/2018 17:51

She will say National Interest in EVERY SINGLE THING you see her in from here on in.

sunglasses123 · 15/11/2018 17:51

Madeleine - I agree. from coming from a raging left wing family growing up I am now blue through and through.

However I could cheerfully strangle Cameron who didn't negotiate hard and ended up calling for a Brexit vote. It was always going to be close. I voted leave but not because of immigration. Both my parents are immigrants. I have a real fear that Corbyn would literally destroy this country. It is very easy to play with other people's money when you have your own money to fall back on should your ideas not work out.

What sort of person then would vote for Labour in its current state?

I think I agree with you. Another hung parliament, back biting, scoring political points for personal gain (and I mean all parties).

Its a horrible situation to be in

beanaseireann · 15/11/2018 17:58

billysboy
Do not mention Rome to the DUP !!!

wowfudge · 15/11/2018 18:00

The problem is that none of those people criticising TM and posturing for the Tory leadership or Labour seem to have any better ideas. I've heard nothing concrete from anyone.

Momasita · 15/11/2018 18:01

I just can't imagine generation's to come picking through all this with benefit of hindsight.
The rich irony of corbyn being a leaver but in opposition, Labour voters who are remain believing he will keep them in 😂, may being our leader but a remainer,...

You just couldn't make this stuff up.
I think may was the right person to step into the breach after the chaos of the ref result and now I think we need a leaver in charge.

SillySallySingsSongs · 15/11/2018 18:07

Listening to Irish radio today: If TM resigns, there would need to be a general election.

Then Irish radio are wrong. There would not need to be a GE.

JeremyCorbynsBeard · 15/11/2018 18:14

How anyone can support her I've no idea. She was a staunch remainer until she got offered PM , and suddenly changed her mind, just like that.

She's nothing but a career politician - doesn't give a fuck about the country, only herself.

It really doesn't matter who's in charge of a Tory government as their policies are horrific whoever is there at the top. Selfish wankers the lot of them.

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 15/11/2018 18:24

All day she has spouted same old, same old and ignored the perfectly valid questions put to her. National interest, delivering what the voters want, when no-one knows what that is. She has held her fucking nerve though, so deserves some kudos for that, but tonight just smacked of emotional blackmail. I am infuriated.
