Does anyone else look into people's living rooms or kitchens when they walk past houses?

Or is it just me?

Saw a woman last night blow drying a dog on the kitchen table. Dog was displeased.

Surely others do this? Grin

One of my favourite things to do on an early evening dog walk!

There's a bungalow my other half and I always have a nose at as it's being done up round the corner from us - last week he (I didn't go out with him this time) walked past and saw a male occupant in one of the front bedrooms having a bit of, er, sexy alone time. Other half was horrified!!!!!

Dowser · 15/11/2018 17:57

Absolutely. It would be a din not too 😂

KristinaM · 15/11/2018 17:59

Of course I do. I have no interest in what people are doing, only their home decor.

Dowser · 15/11/2018 18:05

Where my husband used to live in sunderland one of the little bungalows used to really go to town recreating a Christmas scene in the front parlour.

They were obviously up for a good old nosey and we made sure we didn’t disappoint
The only curtains we close are the bedroom ones

FickleFingers · 15/11/2018 18:05

Of course, I can't help myself!! Usually it just gives me a nice cosy feeling seeing people settled at home ☺️

Kaykay06 · 15/11/2018 18:12

I do this too, probably subconsciously as I don’t think about it much. There is an area nearby where there are massive houses and it’s beautiful to drive past to see all the stunning Christmas trees in their windows, total house envy and tree envy.

TheLastNigel · 15/11/2018 18:14

OMG all the time!
My village is brilliant for this as it has an old fashioned village high st so lots of the houses used to be old shops with massive windows. And it's full of poshos who I swear leave their curtains open so they can show off! (NB I am NOT one of said posho's)

Rockbird · 15/11/2018 18:15

I love it. It's the one thing I miss about commuting.

IamThatWoman · 15/11/2018 18:20

I love doing this. Used to live in Kensington just off Glos Rd and used to love wandering past the huge houses, esp at Christmas. Some of the interiors are just 😮 Shock, but I love that sort of thing. We live in Fulham now and I love doing it to the houses on my street. Guilty pleasure....

UsedBySomebodyAlready · 15/11/2018 18:23

As a kid I used to feel jealous of other people's homes when I looked in and they seemed all warm and cosy - low lights, fire going, people all comfy. I wanted to grow up and have a home like that, that people looked in on and were jealous.

In reality they must look in and just thank their lucky stars they don't live among this chaos. Meh. At least I'm providing a public service of sorts...

Fucksgiven · 15/11/2018 18:30

It's the best bit of riding my horse through the village. I can stop and fiddle with stirrups if I want a longer look

Gonzoo · 15/11/2018 18:36

When I first moved to London I lived in a first floor flat. I didn't shut the blinds thinking why would I? DH and I were participating in some rather enthusiastic activities one evening and I looked up to see a whole rammed top floor of a bus gawping at us! We started shutting the blinds after that!

JovialNickname · 15/11/2018 18:42

Yes, if people have the curtains open and the lights on it means they want you to look in

Buddywoo · 15/11/2018 18:44

When we lived in Holland everyone left their curtains open. They liked people to admire their house.

Gonzoo the same thing happened to us when we were first married. We had a bus stop outside and had forgetten about the glass at the top of the front door.. We had a long hallway which went straight into the living room. We were having fun on the living room floor when I looked up and saw the whole upper deck of bus watching'

Also same thing happened when my brother was knocking at the door whilst we were again having fun. We didn't answer the door but he opened the letter box and peered through.

SeaViewBliss · 15/11/2018 18:45

I’ve got a weird thing about seeing into houses when it’s dark outside. It gives me a horrible anxious feeling. Like I am all alone outside and they are all happy and cosy and living their lives.

No idea where it comes from Confused

Millionairesshortbread1 · 15/11/2018 18:53

I went horse riding with my daughter on holiday, didn’t enjoy it, though I had a lovely time looking in peoples gardens and houses. Always sit on the top deck of the bus so I can have a good look in the windows.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/11/2018 18:55

I do when I’m running, or if someone’s lights are on and it’s dark inside. I see lots of naked people on my early morning runs. It’s a natural human thing to glance into Windows surely?

We live in quite a grand looking house (from the outside, it’s not grand inside by any means) with big gates, and a lot of people peer in and down the drive. I think they’re probably very disappointed!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 15/11/2018 19:00

I do it all the time, and form opinions about the inhabitants based on what I can see of their house.

One day I was moseying along snooping windows as usual and a guy over took me and said "I do that too. Can't abide these feature walls."

Zoflorabore · 15/11/2018 19:02

My kitchen is at the front of the house and I live in my kitchen so when I'm doing the dishes I get to see all sorts going on!

Equally, lots of people look in, my kitchen has a hot pink theme and actually looks quite nice from outside. I do lower the blinds around 8 though Grin

Orangepear · 15/11/2018 19:05

It makes me feel like the little match girl.

FeckingEjit · 15/11/2018 19:12

Love doing this. Makes me feel cosy inside to see how other people live. Couples giggling at the telly, kids drawing/doing homework on the table. I have also got a few design and decor ideas from doing this too!😁

festivellama · 15/11/2018 19:21

My late parents were very keen on net curtains. They said it stopped dodgy types being able to see whether or not the house was worth burgling.

daphine2004 · 15/11/2018 19:23

Always! I know you should but it jut happens a. Years ago I was sat on the top deck and this woman was getting changed in her bedroom, but you couldn’t miss it. Big bay window on a main road. Blinds open. I bet she didn’t even realise until she turned around in her bra and saw the bus gawping at her! I was so sorry for her.

Sroket · 15/11/2018 19:33

In my old house it was on a medium sized estate, so fair number of houses. I used to walk my dog at about midnight/1am and I was always surprised by how many people had lights on, curtains open at that time! And yes I used to side glance in!

PhilomenaButterfly · 15/11/2018 19:35

Of course! Someone on the way to DC's school already has a Christmas tree up! Shock
