Does anyone else look into people's living rooms or kitchens when they walk past houses?

Or is it just me?

Saw a woman last night blow drying a dog on the kitchen table. Dog was displeased.

Surely others do this? Grin

I don't stop and stare! But, people have blinds and curtains - use them if you object!

Amaaboutthis · 15/11/2018 14:54

I do to reassure myself that mine aren’t the only children glued to Fornite.

Christmas time is magical, isnt it?

And I don't have curtains (apart from a cafe net in my kitchen to save the postman's blushes) or blinds, so if anyone wants to come round to gawp, feel free.Smile

Sparklingbrook · 15/11/2018 15:02

I think people just forget they haven't drawn the curtains.

Our living room is at the back of the house, it was one of the things I wanted. Unaware of passers by and only the wildlife to look in at us after dark.

mirren3 · 15/11/2018 15:02

nowshes me too, why do so many people insist on having over bright lights on. Even the "big light" is too much for me. Obviously people with bad eyesight need a brighter light, my late DH had macular degeneration so I completely understand that.

nowshesaturtle · 15/11/2018 15:13

mirren3 yes, bad eyesight must come into it sometimes. I just know it'd give me a bloody awful headache and probably make me look like the living dead as well

EdisonLightBulb · 15/11/2018 15:18

Always! we call it nosey-ing in our house.

Me: I'm off out for a walk to get my steps in for today

DS: It's dark outside mum

DD: Yeh, she does that on purpose so she can go nosey-ing

Lots of people round here eat puddings (or possibly cereal) in front of their TV on the sofa.

Sewrainbow · 15/11/2018 15:18

I do this! I also have front door and drive envy! Mainly because I'm so unhappy with mine, it could be so much better but would involve a landscaper, lots of money and a dh accepting of noise, mess, disruption and expense Sad

CoperCabana · 15/11/2018 15:20

I would agree that the early evening dog walk is the best time to do this. Lights on, curtains not yet drawn. A lovely mooch and a nosey!

kenandbarbie · 15/11/2018 16:39

Oh yes! And this is the perfect time of year as there's a bit of a delay between putting on your lights inside and it being dark enough to shut the curtains. I haven't really seen anything unusual though.

dontcallmelen · 15/11/2018 16:45

Yy Brilliant time of year to have a nosey, Not dark enough for drawing the curtains but dull enough to put some lights on, Always building works going on in my road, so get to see the knock through/extensions.

megletthesecond · 15/11/2018 16:46

Yes. A sneaky peek.
I'm dreadfully nosy .

sparklepops123 · 15/11/2018 16:49

Best thing about it getting dark so early!

Threewheeler1 · 15/11/2018 16:51

Yep.

And I quite often trip over my own feet doing it.

silkpyjamasallday · 15/11/2018 16:58

Before DP and i had DD one of our favourite activities come this time of year was going on long evening walks to have a nose into people's lovely houses. Difficult now we have bedtime routine to contend with.

mossyroundhill · 15/11/2018 17:00

I used to walk down to the train station every morning to get to college, and always passed a house that looked like a dolls house inside. Lovely dark wood furniture and a beautiful glass standing lamp. Looked so cosy and inviting. I used to slow down so I could get a good look, the curtains were always open and lights on but never saw anyone!

buttybuttybutthole · 15/11/2018 17:02

This thread has made me smile 😊

DH and I often go for an evening still in winter and always remark on how many people are sitting watching TV!!

Going to go out shortly ...I'll report back!

Cloudycloud · 15/11/2018 17:07

Yup it's hard not to have a bit of a nosey. There's quite a few people that leave their blinds open with the lights on where I live. I went out for an hour the other night and when I came back they were still there on display, I don't get it, do they want people to look at them?

Dontgiveamonkeys1350 · 15/11/2018 17:09

I loved it. Used to do it. Then caught a lady dancing around her bedroom completely naked. After that I tried not to as it felt like I was intruding. To be fair it was on a really busy route and had loads of buses usin it so she Must have known

Ignoramusgiganticus · 15/11/2018 17:19

I like the bright light on. I don't like to peer across gloom.
I close the front curtains for privacy but leave the back room ones open. The few neighbours who can see in are welcome to. Not much value in seeing me slack jawed watching the tv.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 15/11/2018 17:25

I like looking at people's Christmas trees when they're up. I also peek into living rooms if the lights are on at this time of year. It makes even an ordinary room look cosy and nice. It was the best we could do before Pinterest came along.

DoveSecret · 15/11/2018 17:31

I do. Always. Close them if you dont want nosey people looking in.

Creepyexgirlfriend · 15/11/2018 17:35

I love this. It's so cosy seeing the little scenes.

GVmama · 15/11/2018 17:36

We live in a farmhouse with a public footpath along the side of the house, past the living room and kitchen windows.

My DH has been known to open the window and offer rubber neckers the chance to come inside and have a proper look!

I don't blame people at all, I usually just smile and wave Grin
