Book group when signed off work?

I’ve been off work for the last couple of weeks with something non contagious. I’m feeling a bit better and am climbing the walls from being at home for so long.

Would it be awful to go to my book group tonight? I’m back at work Monday and even though it’s unlikely, I’m worried about being judged by work.

Any opinions? Lack of sleep isn’t helping my reasoning.

Hr manager here. Go to your book group - it’s nowhere near the same thing as spending days at work, plus it’s not much good for your mental health to be stuck in the house for prolonged periods of time.

happypotamus · 15/11/2018 13:40

That sounds like a good idea. Being too unwell for work does not make you too unwell to go to a book group, does it? Work is surely going to be much more demanding and be a much longer day. I have never been to a book group, but I assume they last a couple of hours max and mostly involve sitting and talking, which is much more manageable than a work day in any job. It's not healthy to stay at home if you are well enough to go out. Also, how would work even know you went to the book group? Go and enjoy it.

Is it a work book club?

Oddsocksandmeatballs · 15/11/2018 13:43

I agree with all the others, go to your book club.

PurpleDaisies · 15/11/2018 13:44

Thanks all. I sort of knew it would be fine but doubting myself and even though it’s nowhere near work, guaranteed I’d run into someone on the way.

Not sure how I’ve not managed to read the book in a fortnight of not doing anything!

Is it a work book club?

No, a social think with some friends at a pub.

Damn it, if I’m going out I need to get out of my pjs!

Youve been signed off work, not life.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/11/2018 13:57

Good God of course its okay.
You're signed off work not bloody life. You can't compare something you enjoy to the stresses of work.
Go out and enjoy yourself

Go Purple! It'll be good for you to get out of the house and may help you feel ready for work on Monday. If you feel tired you can leave early. Work people won't know or care really.

Plus (speaking as someone in a book club) you've had 2 weeks off work so no excuse not to have read the book and had some insightful thoughts about it!

PurpleDaisies · 15/11/2018 14:12

Thanks all!

fernie the purplepigs have had so much attention and extra veg with me being home that our lardy boar now weighs over 1.5kg.

Purple - he's just piling on insulation for winter. Just makes good sense! Have a great evening.
