Washing machines with automatic detergent dosing

Does the detergent drawer still need to be left open when machine isn't being used?

I leave mine open because it seems to flush it anyway despite using the dosing cartridges at the bottom of the machine. I therefore open it to dry it out so it doesn't go scummy. I usually forget though, so still have to clean it regularly!
