Has anyone been sterilised?

I’ve just been looking at the nhs page about it and it doesn’t seem as intrusive as I’d thought it was. I had images of acid etc!

Has anyone been sterilised? How did you find it, immediately after and long term after?

I’m seriously considering it. I struggle with the children I have and definitely don’t want any more. I don’t like hormonal contraception and don’t like the copper coil. Using condoms at the moment but they’re not 100% effective.

I had it done about 4 years ago.

Home by about 6pm with 3 little would where they did the keyhole, lots of pain that night and the next day but they did give me codine which helped a bit. After that I had a few days of mild discomfort but nothing awful, I was going to have 2 weeks off of work but only took a week in the end.

Oh and I didn't know they would fill me with air so my stomach looked and felt huge for a while and I had wind like pain for a bit too.

Wounds not would

Fireinthegrate · 14/11/2018 18:45

Same as BillThePony.

The worst discomfort was the air as when you're upright it travels up and my shoulders were really painful.

2 small scars, one in belly button the other on pibic hairline. Bit of discomfort, like period pains.

I would say however that I felt angry afterwards that my husband refused to have the snip instead, less intrusive for a man and quicker recovery

Good luck, the NHS won't fund it in my area.

Squarethecircles · 14/11/2018 18:50

I had it done whilst I had a C-section. No problems at all, once the csec wound had healed

madcatladyforever · 14/11/2018 18:50

I had it done and it was fine, no pain or anything, easy. However my doctor confirmed that the op had triggered an early menopause at 45 which was not so good.

RossPoldarkfan · 14/11/2018 18:51

I did not have pain afterwards but was pretty wiped out by the anaesthetic so needed one week off work.
I did have major period problems afterwards for a few years which I had never had before.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 14/11/2018 19:33

Had it done about 14 years ago. Almost invisible scars, minimal pain, didn't even need paracetamol. No wind pain or bloating. 51 and still having periods.
Best thing I ever did.

Omgineedanamechange · 14/11/2018 19:35

Similar to PP, done 16 years ago, no scar, very minor pain, still having periods at 52.

DoveSecret · 14/11/2018 19:50

Yes, 8 years ago. Best thing. My periods became regular, something they never were.

In and out in 7 hours. Some discomfort but I wouldn’t call it pain. I felt really odd a few hours after coming home. I went all shivery, hot water bottle and a blanket couldn’t warm me up, then all of a sudden i became so bloody hot i was sitting in my underwear in the living room 😆. Within a week i was back to normal. I was off on a career break then but i think id need about 10 days off work to recoup.

Branleuse · 14/11/2018 19:54

Yeah i had it done a few years ago. No problems at all.

rockchickchickyrock · 14/11/2018 21:23

Following with interest, I’m considering this when I have my c section in a few months... but wondering what my periods will be like. They’ve been really heavy since having my first two children so would like to make them go away too!

SoHumble · 14/11/2018 21:34

I had it done last year.

Couple of weeks to fully recover. No period issues. No pregnancy anxiety. I’ve been really pleased.

fantasmasgoria1 · 14/11/2018 21:37

I had it done ten years ago at age 33. It was keyhole surgery, just clips on Fallopian tubes. I always react badly to a general anaesthetic so was expecting that but it healed well and I have had no problems since! It has been a relief not to have to worry about contraception.
