I really fancy a glass of wine

..and there is none in the house Sad

Options are:

a. go out and get some
b. resist and have a cup tea/glass of water instead.

I last had wine on Sunday and I am (sort of) trying to be good....

Any words of wisdom....?

It’s typical time for the wine witch to come calling. I find if I can get to around 8pm the craving goes and I settle down to a sober night.

If you don’t drink then you won’t wake up groggy. You won’t be extra hungry the next day. You won’t be as irritable and tired either.

DavetheCat2001 · 14/11/2018 17:04

You're right sausage

Thank you for the voice of reason..I'm far too easily swayed when it comes to wine.

I'm cutting right down because I've been drinking far too much recently, so I've promised myself no weeknight drinking or drinking alone.

But... it's wineday wednesday so I'm having a wobble.

Wah. I'm going to go home and have a sad little Horlicks and try to feel proud of myself.

DavetheCat2001 · 14/11/2018 17:09

Why is wine so goddamn moreish??

And WHY can't it be really good for you, full of nutrients and excellent for your health????????

I could go without cake/sweets/crisps/chocolate but wine is my downfall..a lovely glass of mellow rounded red..mmmmmm

She wants a glass, not a bottle!

I’m in the same position op, although I technically have prosecco. Only want one and the rest will go flat.

I’m going for a cup of tea and see what happens.

sausagefingers9 · 14/11/2018 17:11

I know, it’s shit isn’t it.

I got caught in the habit of drinking more than I should so now I have to keep the mantra of reasons why I don’t want to drink running round in my head. I find listing anything negative I feel about alcohol over and over helps with cravings.

Delatron · 14/11/2018 17:12

Ooh I feel the same. I have to go and collect DS in the car at 6.30 so can’t right now and that’s a good thing!

Completely agree with the poster who says get through to 8pm and the craving goes. I always try and delay by having a cup of tea and being busy.

dizzydaisies · 14/11/2018 17:13

Purpledaisies put a metal teaspoon in the opened prosecco bottle and it'll keep it fizzy 😊

DavetheCat2001 · 14/11/2018 17:13

I had a job interview today and I have been justifying a glass of wine to myself as a pat on the back for getting back out there into job-interview world after a shitty time recently.

There's always an excuse/reason though isn't there...meh.

See, I'd drink a bottle if I said I was having 1 glass. Especially as DP is out tonight. So it's none for me.

It's that time of year isn't it.

ScarlettDarling · 14/11/2018 17:16

My downfall is chocolate. I've tried buying the 98% dark chocolate in the hope it'll stop my cravings but it doesn't. I have the dark chocolate then I need a chunky kit Kat afterwards! Try to resist. Think how much you'll enjoy your glass on Saturday night if you've been good all week.

Bobbiepin · 14/11/2018 17:18

Well done on getting back out there but consider whether you want a glass so badly that you'll go out with the sole purpose of getting wine. No judgement here, I've done the same for chocolate but do you really need it?

I have discovered supermarkets do those single glass bottles of wine and prosecco, which can be handy if you only want a glass (As I fancy tonight after DS is in bed, but only a glass, not the temptation of a whole bottle)

DavetheCat2001 · 14/11/2018 17:54

I'm wavering still..sitting at the top of the stairs writing this!

kelper the single bottle option sounds sensible...it is always too tempting to have that 2nd large glass, and before you know it, you've done half a bottle!

Right...I'm NOT going out.

It's dark and cold if I walk.
If I drive I'll lose my parking space
I have a busy work day tomorrow so will no doubt appreciate the clear(ish) head then.
Have a load of social things planned over December which will probably test my liver, so I should restrain myself for now.

Thanks all for the wise words!

Read some of the sober blogs they're helpful at putting a positive spin on being alcohol free.

You've totally made me want a glass now! 🙄

dingdang · 14/11/2018 19:50

I often have a couple of mini bottles of prosecco in the fridge for just this occasion- fancy a glass of fizz but not any more.. stock up the next time you are in the supermarket!

dingdang · 14/11/2018 19:50

Any more than one glass I mean!

Mumshotel · 14/11/2018 19:52

Ha the wine witch is my best friend. Have a cuppa then you might not even want wine

DavetheCat2001 · 14/11/2018 20:14

Well, I managed to quell my desire for wine by ordering a big fuck off curry instead Grin

I think what I really wanted was 'a treat', so next after wine, my go to is the very fine curry house near me.

I feel as fat as a whale, but happy that I managed not to cave into the wine.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/11/2018 20:41

So now you're going to have the farts throughout your busy work day.... Grin

TransposersArePosers · 14/11/2018 20:48

I realised I was drinking far too much ( about half a bottle of prosecco a night, 30ish units per week, eek!) but I like to have a cold, but not sweet or too fizzy drink in the evenings.

I have started having Eisberg (fine, once you get used to it) or Belvoir elderflower presse instead and that works for me. I have also started buying the small bottles of prosecco (250 ml I think) so when I do have a drink it isn't much. Far too easy to have another glass, then another if it's a proper sized bottle.

Hope your curry was lush.

DavetheCat2001 · 14/11/2018 20:55

I'm working from home tomorrow so it's just the cat who will be subjected to my flatulence Grin

@TransposersArePosers - I really like the Fever Tree tonic waters. When I was on the Brave Babes thread on here last year, I got into drinking those with ice and lemon. Tastes similar to a G&T and is very refreshing. I think I need to stock up again as I always do Dry January and it's a lifesaver!

Curry was great thanks..just suffering with food-fatigue now Shock
