Is anyone watching this? Are people aware of the problems in the school system? It's awful :(

I find it fascinating. I think those teachers are amazing and they must have endless patience.

I didn’t watch it tonight but will watch it on catch-up. I am a governor at a small primary school and am very saddened by the ongoing, painful withdrawal of funding from state education. Our Head Teacher works extremely hard, and with great care, to balance the books but the current and projected funding environments are very, very challenging. And that’s before the slow decline of other services such as CAHMS. Teachers at some schools are under massive strain.

As a teacher it is so nice to have a program that gives a realistic view into what it is really like.

I hope some parents will now think twice about constantly bashing schools and teachers. I walked away from all of this after 10 years as it was just awful and it’s got worse since then.

I am a teacher and this programme reflects exactly what happens daily in most deprived schools. Juggling planning, marking, teaching, pastoral, sen needs, data, justification of why each student isn’t making ‘expected progress’, continual berating from some parents and some management is a daily occurrence- add in the lack of resources and money makes a poor working environment.
I still love my job and I know there are other jobs that are much more stressful and more important but I just wish occasionally people would stop and think before being negative about schools.

It’s taken a long time and a TV programme for parents to be aware of what is happening in schools.

Academisation, erosion of funding, particularly for SEND, increasing expectations of the role of a teacher, performance targets, no pay progression, reduction and withdrawal of support services, challenging behaviour and so on ad infinitum.

The teacher fora tell the tale. It is now a crisis.
