How clean/tidy is your house ?

If you were to have an unexpected visitor to come by right now, how confident are you with your home?

I’m feeling pretty crap about the smell of poo coming from the baby’s bin just when I assumed I worked hard today and finished everything and gonna get up and change it.

And the baby food all over the kitchen floor which I still need to wipe away.

Used to be able to have a spotless house by now, but as I wait for baby to give me orders sometimes I can’t clean things straight away..

Ahhhh make me feel better people

Did I mention the baby toys everywhere ?

And laundry... oh my colorful laundry

My house is a shit hole at the moment, we’ve all had a sickness bug for the past 4 days. Done 17 wash loads in that time, so there are huge piles of washed and dried laundry waiting to be put away everywhere, and the kids toys have completely taken over the house as I’ve lacked the energy to put them away, we’ve all just needed to sleep as much as possible. I have kept on top of dousing everything with anti bac in a desperate attempt to halt the spread of sickness but it didn’t work. But yeah, I’m completely embarrassed by my house right now.

Sitranced · 13/11/2018 20:48

Fine, in fact it happened this afternoon. An old friend popped in for a cup of tea. There's some washing hanging around drying and some bits of crockery waiting to be washed up but that's just normal isn't it?

Mum2jenny · 13/11/2018 20:51

It's a tip but if friends turn up uninvited and don't like it, hopefully they won't return.

Life is too short to worry about how ppl perceive your house. My minimum standards ensure kitchen and loo is clean. The rest is total pot luck!

Steelesauce · 13/11/2018 20:56

I'd be perfectly happy for someone to come round now. It's not spotless and there's normal 'living' mess (some bibs hanging on the radiator, pots on the drainer) but it's fairly clean and tidy.

Scotinoz · 13/11/2018 20:59

I'm okay with unexpected visitors! During the day there are toys/shoes/coats/etc dumped by the door, but dirty dishes are always in the washer/floors are clean/etc.

Presentable yet very lived in by small kids.

Any unexpected visitor I could imagine though wouldn't be phased by mess though...

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 13/11/2018 21:08

@CarrieBlu anti bac doesn't kill Norovirus. You need bleach. Hope you're all better soon

formerbabe · 13/11/2018 21:10

At the moment if my friends without children came round, they'd be horrified.

If my friends with children came round they'd think it was immaculate!

CarrieBlu · 13/11/2018 21:23

@WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream thanks, I’ve actually used anti bac wipes and spray, bleach (spray and liquid), Mr Muscle bathroom spray and the Dettol laundry cleanser stuff in my desperation to keep it at bay but it was in vain, I just couldn’t be bothered to list it all before Grin. Feeling better now though, plus at least it’s an extra few baby pounds lost I suppose.

Ffswtf · 13/11/2018 21:34

Oh no @carrieblu hope you all feel better soon Flowers My downstairs is passable, not a euphemism Grin But upstairs is another matter Hmm I'm at a point now where I don't care what visitors think anymore. If you're expecting hotel standard presentation maybe we shouldn't be friends Grin

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/11/2018 21:35

Fine here but only because I don't work on a Tuesday, any other day it would be a different story.

Conseulabananahammock · 13/11/2018 21:37

Clean yes, tidy.... erm not particularly
Not awfully messy just "lived in" have 3 kids and youngest im a full time carer for. This is as good as my house gets at the minute!

MaHeidsGouping · 13/11/2018 21:38

Mine is okay because I was off work yesterday so spent the day sorting/cleaning it for the week ahead...come Friday it will be a shithole.

CarrieBlu · 13/11/2018 21:39

Thanks @Ffswtf. Unfortunately when there’s a toddler on the loose who likes to do things like randomly stick her fingers in your mouth when you’re least expecting it, you don’t stand much chance against a germ invasion.

I also often go for the “well, at least downstairs looks alright” approach by slinging all the mess upstairs to hide it from visitors. I’m making my house sound really bad, but it’s not that untidy usually, I promise. But sometimes life happens, and then it just seems to all build up so quickly.

bengalcat · 13/11/2018 21:40

Am not houseproud with kids cats dog and work FT - have more important things to worry about

Bluntness100 · 13/11/2018 22:19

Always clean and tidy. I've pretty much always been relatively clean and tidy but it's got worse as I've got older. 😱

Katedotness1963 · 13/11/2018 22:22

My house is always “visitor ready”. Always has been, I hate mess.

DowntonCrabby · 13/11/2018 22:25

It’s currenrly 9/10 as we had family over tonight for DD’s birthday. I have fairly middling standards though Grin

ILoveHumanity · 13/11/2018 23:30

Ah, you all sound like you are on top of things a lot better than I am .

I have zero energy left from lack of sleep (9 month baby), he started climbing everywhere and I hardly have time to even eat.

Spent all day catching up with housework . But now can't be bothered to get out of bed after the night feed.

So, bin still stinks of baby poo, some dishes haven't been washed, the floor was wiped only under baby but surfaces and floor haven't been cleaned for the night.

My MIL would be mortified 😅.

I keep coming up with new strategies to stay on top but it's all too overwhelming at the moment. And no energy as I'm being sucked to dry with a terrible sleeper.

Trying not to rely on coffee due to breastfeeding but if tomorrow is a similar day, I might just give in.

selfconfesseduggaddict · 13/11/2018 23:41

Today I wouldn't let you through the door for a 999 issue without apologising for the state of the place

By lunchtime tomorrow I would invite you over happily as it will sparkle

It doesn't take me long to fix my mess but I do get a tip like this once every fortnight or so

Didyeeaye · 13/11/2018 23:45

Living room, bedrooms and toilet are ok. Despite the mountain of clean washing on the sofa thats still to be organised. My kitchen is a riot. Made two meals tonight and used every pot and dish in the house which are now 'steeping' in the basin. There's also sauce needing wiped from work tops and shavings on the floor that I've not bothered sweeping... I'm tired, emotional and don't care at this point lol

ILoveHumanity · 13/11/2018 23:53

Carrie!I do hope you get well soon . You have no reason to apologise you are ill

OP posts:
ILoveHumanity · 13/11/2018 23:54

Sorry I meant no reason to b embarrassed !

Did I mention I'm sleep deprived 😂

My house is always “visitor ready”. Always has been, I hate mess.

My house is always 'visitor ready' too. My house however is messy. But that doesn't mean that visitors aren't very very welcome. If I have to move something off a chair for them to sit, then so be it. Visitors come to visit me, not inspect my house.
