Has anyone seen the new Boots advert?

Saw it for the first time today and it’s the first time I’ve almost vomited in my own mouth watching an advert! I saw lots of people on Twitter really liked it, it made them smile and cry but honestly I found it awful! What do you think? Am I an insensitive monster for gagging at ‘she’s me mum’?!

Well I just love it!! Makes me want to hug my lovely mum who has unfortunately passed away

I really dislike it because of the whole makeup shaming thing. I'd never do that to my poor daughter! Ridiculous!

It's quite annoying but Boots pays my ("me") Mum's pension so I don't want them to go bust.

I really want to understand this advert but I don't get it at all.

The girl looks about 16, even 18. Why then would she had to take her make up off? And in front of her friends too - embarrassing/humiliating.

The girl was wearing purple lipstick but the woman was wearing red so I don't see how either of them are 'borrowing' from each other.

And I don't get the punchline. Giving your mum - who already has a red lipstick - another red lipstick?

I am absolutely bemused!!

Boots say: "We understand that not everyone will be able to relate to the advert but hope brings to life that magical feeling of giving or receiving a gift which really celebrates each person’s uniqueness."

I still don't understand.

Tippexy · 15/11/2018 11:11

And Boots have also said

"The bond between the mother and daughter shown in this year’s advert is just one of many special relationships that are celebrated over the festive period, this is just an example"

What bond?

I don't understaaaaaaaaaaand!!!

The advert showcases the relationship between a teenage girl and her mum in a campaign which focuses on giving a gift that says 'you get them'.
The advert follows the story of mum and daughter - Clare and Molly.
The film begins as Clare is attempting to put Molly’s hair in a fancy up-do, and not quite succeeding.
In the following scenes, Molly is told to take off her bright lipstick before leaving the house in a typical teenage scene.
Later in the film, Molly finds herself in a Christmas market, and she hears music.
Wondering what everyone is watching, she is stunned to see her mum, singing confidently as part of a choir.
Shocked at seeing her mum in an entirely new light, she decides to get her a gift which really ‘gets’ her – a red lipstick for her next performance.

Marketing director for Boots UK and Ireland, Helen Normoyle said: “The story charting the relationship between the mum and daughter was a perfect example of how even when we’re close to the ones we love, we can often take their unique traits for granted.

"Working with our own Boots colleagues in the choir and having a fresh take on a well-known song provided a fun and touching way to bring our proposition to life.”

HmmHmmHmmHmm

None of it makes me want to dash down to Boots for lipstick or anything else.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 15/11/2018 12:04

It's alright I guess. Not keen on the "me mum" either.

TheWiseWomansFear · 15/11/2018 13:53

I didn't think it was awful, but agree her dialect doesn't match me mum. Plus, why buy her a red lipstick? She has one that's why she was wearing it...

TheWiseWomansFear · 15/11/2018 13:53

Oh it wasn't her lipstick... ok, I get it

jacketpotatobeansandcheese · 15/11/2018 14:42

Such a strong bond, she didn't even know her mum was singing in a choir?!

BlancheM · 15/11/2018 16:12

It's a straightforward concept, just annoying.
It's a stereotypical teenage mum-daughter relationship where the mum says 'get that muck off yer face you're not going out like that', the DD is too self involved to notice the mum has any life outside of being a nagging mother which is why it's a revelation to see her in a new light, and so touching for her to give her a present like lipstick as it recognises that she's a woman not just a mother. Or something.
