How many wees a day does your 3yo do?

I don't know if it's because I go ALOT (always have done) but I feel like ds1 isn't going enough.

Today so far :

  1. 5am when I got him up for a wee. 2)10am when we went swimming. 3)1pm ish while we were having lunch. 4)3pm before we went out.
  2. 7.30pm bedtime. I'll get him up in the night again anytime between 3 and 5.

Doesn't seem enough to me but I've no idea what's "normal".

chocolatecoveredraisons · 12/11/2018 22:33

That is normal! Aren't we as humans meant to ore on average 7 times a day?

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/11/2018 22:33

P.s. I don't normally track tem like this! But having noticed he wasn't going much, paid more attention .

Sounds normal to me.

Seems ok. Why are you getting him up in the night though?

EekThreek · 12/11/2018 22:36

4, maybe 5 times max here, can often be 3.

I sometimes only go twice a day, but normally 3. Think my kids must have inherited my enormous bladder!

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/11/2018 22:37

I get him up so he doesn't wet the bed. He was dry at night for 6 months, but once he started longer days at pre school he has been really tired and started wetting the bed . Or sometimes waking up earlier than need be. If I get him up for a wee he'll sleep til 7 or 7.30, which he needs.

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/11/2018 22:38

Bloody hell Eek! Do you not drink?? I go hourly, through the day. At least.

OP posts:
musicalmama · 12/11/2018 22:38

Mine holds it in til it's Niagara Falls but never has an accident. Maybe 5 times since being trained at 22months.

Typically he will go at bath time around 7pm then that's him until morning when he will go any time between 6.30 and 8/9am!

He will then go around lunchtime again and maybe once between lunch and dinner then bathtime again so only usually about 4 times in total a day! He could drink more I reckon but that's another task in itself and he is pretty sweaty which is probably where most of his liquid goes! Yours sounds much more regular!

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/11/2018 22:40

I think it was the 5am til 10am , probably more like 10.30 by the time we were all changed etc, that made me think. He'd had a full breaker of milk to drink plus milk on cereal, plus fruit, at breakfast. I'd been 5 time in the same time period!

Kokapetl · 12/11/2018 22:46

Sounds about the same as my three year old and most people I know. If you are going every hour or more often that sounds like a bit of a problem TBH. Can you wait longer if necessary- for example long journeys?

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/11/2018 22:57

I don't have a problem, I do drink a lot though which has obvious consequences. I've been like it all my life though.

Spanglylycra · 12/11/2018 23:06

Mine goes a lot less, say 8am, lunchtime when I make her, before bath and then again at bed if I'm lucky. I worry about her getting water infections but she just won't go. Drinks an average amount.

Caterina99 · 13/11/2018 01:18

My DS is 3. I’d say he goes on average at 7am, 12/1pm, 5pm, 7pm before bed and then we get him up at around 11pm. It’s way less than I go, and seems less than a lot of his toddler friends, but he’s never had an accident and drinks plenty so it’s obviously his normal. It’s nice not having to constantly rush a small child to the loo when out!

birdsofafeather · 13/11/2018 07:13

Your the unusual one op

RunSweatLaughAndLatte · 13/11/2018 08:49

3-5 times here, he holds it for ages! His bladder is amazing compared to mine!

Babybearsporij · 13/11/2018 10:01

Mine has a bladder of steel. First wee of the day goes on for ages!

So yesterday was:

7am getting up.
11am ish after drinking milk & water all morning
4pm ish when we got home from school run
7.30pm before bed

I go multiple times an hour, so not sure where the bladder of steel comes from!

MrsKoala · 13/11/2018 10:13

That seems loads. My kids have inherited my camel bladder. we all only go 2-3 times a day. I drink about 10 cups of tea and water thru the day too. My kids hardly drink tho, some days my 2 year old only has her few breast feeds and refuses any other liquid - she often goes 10 hours between wees! (i know that is bad)

None of us go first thing and have to be up about 30 mins to an hour before our first wee of the day. Whereas everyone else i know goes immediately on waking.

Sparrowlegs248 · 13/11/2018 20:21

I know my habits are unusual, but wasn't su re if ds was at the other extreme, or if it was average, so thanks all for clearing it up. He used to go more often but I guess he goes less as his bladder has got stronger.

OP posts:
EekThreek · 14/11/2018 06:14

I drink 1.5L of water (I have a bottle that measures it) plus maybe 5-6 cups of tea a day. I go first thing and last thing, and maybe once more during 'work' hours depending on if I need to and have the opportunity (either work load or baby load).

Both my toileting children surprised me at how long they could hold it so soon. It still stresses DH out, who makes it a big deal with DS to go "just in case", when I know that he's perfectly capable of getting there when he needs to, if the pressure is off. The only time he has accidents is when he's been asked too many times if needs to go.

It's handy though, as we don't have to factor in regular toilet stops when travelling, or on days out. We can just get on with what we're doing.

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/11/2018 13:18

I drink 3 or 4 litres of water plus multiple cups of tea, coffee, and wine. So it follows that I go a lot. I used to ask ds1 to go before we left the house, but he doesn't want to mostly now.

OP posts:
DrWashout · 14/11/2018 13:35

Just make sure he is drinking enough. Google will tell you, my guess would be around 1.2 - 1.4 litres a day. Drinking plenty will also help stretch his ladder to help him last past 5am.

It never ceases to amaze me how little other people's children seem to wee at my house, but they also often won't drink.

DrWashout · 14/11/2018 13:36

*bladder, even

DerelictWreck · 14/11/2018 13:38

Bloody hell Eek! Do you not drink?? I go hourly, through the day. At least

HOURLY?! I drink 3ltrs water a day and pee 4/5 times!

Userplusnumbers · 14/11/2018 13:40

As long as his wee is fairly light in colour he's hydrated enough, so I wouldn't worry

Sparrowlegs248 · 14/11/2018 20:49

@DerelictWreck yep pretty much hourly through the day, and proper wees, not little trickles.
