Getting baby to take bottle- 8 months

My 8 month old has been breastfed but I am now introducing some formula. She's always taken expressed milk fine from a bottle and the first few times she drank the formula fine. Now she is point blank refusing it. If a little gets in her mouth she spits it out.

I have tried warming it, feeding her when she's hungry, feeding her when she isn't, feeding her at lunchtime, in the morning and at bedtime. Any suggestions?!

I'd try a cup like a 360 cup. You never know!

Try a different formula

Try someone else feeding her.. My 8 month old almost always refuses to take the bottle from me.., he knows there's something else he would prefer.. But will take it for dh or my mum

Thanks everyone. Tried the cup (which she takes water from), tried DH feeding. Haven't tried a different formula- that's a good idea.

Does she take water from any sort of cup? And does she still take expressed milk from the bottle?

Are you trying to wean her of the breast completely?

Longlostpals · 12/11/2018 20:17

I'd like to wean her off completely eventually but for now I just need her to take bottles during the day as I'm going to be at work

Both of mine totally refused to take any kind of milk that wasn't directly from source. They did take to cups of water.

They were perfectly happy to abstain from milk at nursery. After a couple of weeks my body adjusted to no feeds and they were happy mornings and evenings with water and solids between.

Maybe mix with food/water she is already taking? Then slowly move to just milk.

Some babies never take to bottes/formula and just wait til mum is home from work for a mammoth feed. So as long as she is doing okay with food/water she'll be okay. Plus she is okay with a bottle and formula as she's had them before so if you keep offering she'll take it if she wants it.

Thanks everyone- will try her on some weetabix and formula in the morning

Don't bother changing the formula, there is no need. At 8 months if she's not keen on a bottle try a free flow sippy cup. (Like the basic Tommee Tipee one) see how she gets on with it.

If she’s eating properly I wouldn’t bother tbh.

I went back to work when DS3 was 8 months, he never took a bottle or formula. I just used to feed him in the morning and in the evening, DH fed him as normal throughout the day. Much cheaper and easier than faffing about with bottles and formula!

We did move onto those tommee tippee cups with the soft spout and valve and handles. He was a fan of those but chewed through the buggers fairly regularly.
