Security tag left on top - can’t get back to the shop...

Mumsnet, I need your wisdom.

I need to wear this top to work tomorrow (uniform for a special event) and the security tag has been left on. I can’t get to the shop before the event and I don’t know what to do - any ideas?!

Phone the shop. Can you prove payment easily?

You could smash it with a hammer, to break it up.

Could you borrow a top from a colleague?

Is the tag in a really obvious place if you were to wear the top as it is?

You tube - just be careful as some tags have a dye inside so try to tape it up to prevent the dye going on the top. This happened with DDs prom dress, was much easier than I thought to melt it off, just do it outside as it stinks.

Strong magnet if you have one. On the plastic side opposite the pin.

I had this happen twice, years apart. First time I managed to get it off, but it left a hole. I used a hammer.
Second time I wore the item with the security tag and made a joke of it (went after the event and had it removed). I had no choice as I brought the new items in the bag to get changed at venue for the event I was attending. Nothing else to wear.
Now I check, always check.

Get a condom, break the end, then loop the rim around and around the plastic end of the tag, keep doing this until it pops off.

When I say plastic end I mean the more bulkier part

Can’t help op, but one of the girls in my class at secondary worked at Topshop and somehow managed to pilfer a tag remove her. She was very popular with out local crowd of shoplifters after that...

Be careful. Dont some of these tags have anti-theft dye in them that will ruin the cloth and stain your skin for a very long time?

Next ones don't have dye in.

Cut it out and see it back up. It looks like it’s in an inconspicuous place.

You tube videos did it for me, tried the elastic band one but ending up doing the one where you literally burn and melt the plastic and then just click it off!

I once watched a man on a bus, hit the tag on the metal bar on top of the chair Infront a few times and they came off...he had a bag load of items and was pretty skilled at it to be fair.
