Oh its not one of those bloody Tax Credit over payment scams, is it.
Have you googled the number.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 12/11/2018 14:13

There are a lot of scam numbers seemingly coming from manchester

Look at whocalledme

SneakyGremlins · 12/11/2018 14:16

Have googled but this specific number isn't coming up, although the prefix is dodgy apparently.

Now who will I complain to about the accident that wasn't my fault? Grin

I've been getting loads of calls from Manchester.

Get about 2 a day

SpoonBlender · 12/11/2018 14:19

99% likely a scam call with a fake number. Possibly just a badly configured call centre system but that's pretty unlikely.

Either way you don't need to care about getting back to them!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/11/2018 14:20

I it is a scam they're probably not going to cakk back as They'll probably be conning and terrorising the next poor unsuspecting soul as I type. However if they do call back and start prattling on saying something a long the lines of
The is HMRC we are sending the police if you do not pay us x amount of money due to over payment immediately. PleSe press 2 to continue. End the call straight away. Lots of poor people have fell prey to this disgusting scam.
HMRC would never use threatening behaviour. They can't put you into poverty. Plus they'd write to you.

SneakyGremlins · 12/11/2018 14:22

Okay, thanks. I usually ignore but live near Manchester so figured it may be something important!

I had a missed call at 13:12, tried calling back and got a "This number is out of service". That was from a mobile.

ineedabodytransplant · 12/11/2018 16:24

If an unknown number calls me and I don't answer.....if no voicemail left then I don't ever call them.

Usually a scam or a wrong number. Either way not my problem.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 12/11/2018 16:25

Spoofing. It’s to make you pick up.

ileclerc · 12/11/2018 16:27

When the cold callers realised that people (mostly) don't pick up on unknown numbers they started spoofing real ones to make you more likely to pick up.

michaeladams · 15/11/2018 03:08

It's called number spoofing. They could even use our own number to call us. Seems weird, right? I personally don't answer those calls now. 90% incoming calls to my land line are coming from scammers or telemarketers. Sometimes I just look them up on Google or sites like whycall.me to see if people have reported them as scams, and I could just block the numbers.

longwayoff · 15/11/2018 08:33

Me too, just dodgy cold calling. Google to check then block.

LarkDescending · 15/11/2018 10:18

Don’t ever call these spammers back. Some of them make their ill-gotten gains by inducing you to call back a premium-rate number so that you are literally paying them to waste your time.

ShotsFired · 15/11/2018 10:21

Any call centre can spoof their number. This is not new?

I never call back unknown missed calls. If it's that important, they'll ring again

treaclesoda · 15/11/2018 10:23

I had a scam call recently and when I tried to block the number to prevent them ringing again, it said the number didn't exist. I couldn't understand it but the penny has suddenly dropped that of course the number showing on my phone was a fake...Very frustrating.
