Ridiculous amount of adverts on Facebook?

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 08:23

Every third post is an advert.

I've tried deleting about 20-30 of them but they just pop up.

There's an advert exactly bang on every 3rd post. It makes me switch away from Facebook.
Then I forget about the ads and go back, instantly remember and switch away again.

Surely this is a bit of a suicidal action from Facebook itself? People surely aren't going to continue to use it?

As it is, the under 30's aren't into it. It's already dying out.

I'm under 30 and use it, as do all my friends and school year leavers. I'm mid 20s

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 08:55

Ok, it was a study done recently or something.

Maybe track it down and tell them it's wrong because you and your mates still use Facebook.

I'm not bothered about genuine adverts, but what really annoys me are all the scams, bitcoins and day trading in particular, which are just rip-off con jobs. They're constantly being reported to facebook but facebook are in denial and let them continue.

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 09:18

They are genuine adverts. But my whole wall is full of genuine adverts.

I don't go on to Facebook to see a wall of adverts.

I had this a while back and religiously dismissed every one - selecting the 'not interested in this advertiser" option. It seemed to work as I only get the odd one now (and dismiss those too). Maybe they ran out of advertisers for me? 🤣

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 09:37

i did that a feww weeks ago and it worked. ive tried doing it this time as well but it doesnt seem to be taking no for an answer.

Ive also tried reporting them as spam and thats not helped either.

Yes OP, I noticed this just last week too, thought I was going mad!
I think they are tweaking the algorithm again, and it caused a spike as it was rolled out.

Happier news to report that today it all seems to have calmed down again, and I haven't noticed anything excessive (your post reminded me what a pain it was last week!).

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 17:11

It's every other post now.
So 50% of my Facebook feed is adverts now. I must have reported 50 as spam today.

Facebook drives me mad. It's got really bad for adverts and is full of people sharing competitions or shitty memes. I've gone over to Instagram, still has adverts but nowhere near as many as FB. I treat Insta like a personalised magazine.

spiderplantsalad · 12/11/2018 18:06

Yeah I've been getting lots more just lately. And on Instagram too, two in a row this morning ffs.

Possomshell · 12/11/2018 18:12

When the product is free, you are the product! They make billions off adverts so I don't see it slowing down anytime soon.

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 18:15

There's adverts and there's adverts.

If you become unable to use the free product because of the adverts then you stop using the product.

That's not going to work out for them, is it?

I've noticed more adverts recently too but not to the extent you describe, I try to click on the ignore advertiser when I can be bothered.

InfantaSybilla · 12/11/2018 18:16

I've noticed this too. In some respects I don't begrudge it, fb is free and I have come across some good local events that I wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for the adverts. However, because I've expressed an interest in some kid events I seem to be bombarded now with kid toy/accessories adverts or adverts from private schools which are no where near me.

ThatOneHurt · 12/11/2018 18:19

I don't begrudge it either. Just as I don't mind Mumsnet adverts. You gotta make a living!
But the amount it's increased to is awful. I cannot use Facebook because of it.

It's also got a glitch where I can only scroll down two posts from about 9pm at night. It's been doing that for about 3 weeks now.

It's good to get these reminders about Facebook, just in case I ever thought of joining. Keep it up!
