Copper coil

I wondered if anyone has any experience's with the copper coil they would like to share? I'm considering getting it fitted as I struggle with hormonal contraceptives and migraines. Did anyone gain weight on the copper coil? Does it hurt? Can you feel it when it's in there? And does you partner feel it during sex? Thanks :)

I’ve had several coils fitted over 10 years. I really struggled with hormonal contraceptives so it’s been good not to use them. My periods were very heavy but very short. On the whole I’ve been really happy.

Slight note of caution though. My last coil slipped down slightly, so I have a surprise DC2. The midwife did say it wasn’t uncommon in her anecdotal experience.

I used the copper coil for 9 years (2x 5 year coil). It was without any doubt the best form of contraception I've had. All forms of hormonal contraceptive really messed me up one way or another.

I did have side effects with the coil though, many of which I'd never considered could have even have been side effects until I had it removed and they vanished IYSWIM. Periods were fine and very light with a short irregular cycle (yes, it definitely was copper and not the mirena).
