It's odd socks for anti bullying week tomorrow

It's supposedly about celebrating a person's individuality.

There is absolutely nothing about me that is expressed in by the wearing of odd socks. I'm supposed to wear normal business attire with the addition of odd socks.

Is this something you'd embrace and enter into the spirit of or would you find it as cringe as I do? I'm not even sure I've got a pair of shoes (not trainers) that socks will fit inside and boots seem a bit pointless!

I think it’s fun for kids but as an adult I wouldn’t.

hidinginthenightgarden · 11/11/2018 21:01

I often wear odd socks but that is beside the point...
How is wearing odd socks supporting anti-bullying? 99.9% of people are against it - few of them will be wearing odd socks, it doesn't mean they don't care.

I thought odd socks was a DS campaign?

Seems like virtue signalling bollocks to me.

DonaldDucksTowel · 11/11/2018 21:03

Our school are doing it, I think it’s supposed to open up discussions about how everybody is the same but different (?)
I wouldn’t do it as an adult though - unless I was a teacher of course

Willow1992 · 11/11/2018 21:10

Haven't they just nicked that idea off of Downs syndrome awareness? Hmm

Unless I am missing something then I don't think it's okay to take what another cause is trying to make it's 'thing'.

Redskyandrainbows67 · 11/11/2018 21:13

So sexist - girls can’t so easily do with tights...!

Smurf123 · 11/11/2018 21:13

I thought anti bullying week were having a wear yellow day on Thursday?? Didn't hear about odd socks!

Bestseller · 11/11/2018 21:13

Oh, now I'm wondering if I've got the cause wrong. Maybe we wore blue for antibulling last week and this is something else. Spots on Friday for Children in Need. There seems to be something most weeks

School is doing it. However I'm sending DD into school in tights because it's cold. Is she supposed to wear socks over tights?

Tartanwallpaper · 11/11/2018 21:16

We are having to do the same and I declare that it is bollocks. Wtf does odd socks have to do with bullying

Nightfall1983 · 11/11/2018 21:20

We wear odd socks for Down’s Syndrome awareness because the socks represents chromosomes (chromosomes look a bit like socks - if you squint). Everyone has chromosomes, and for people with DS their chromosomes are just a little bit different - not much, but it’s ok to be different.

My sons school are doing Odd Socks for anti-bullying tomorrow and I feel a bit put out but DS awareness day is in March so I doubt this will take anything away from it.

Odd socks for anti bullying tomorrow.

I got dd a pair of tights - one leg purple and one leg pink ....

It has been a lot of non-uniform or unfurled changes recently that I keep forgetting about! Ha Grin

theliverpoolone · 11/11/2018 22:06

DD's school have said girls can wear the socks over tights if they wish.

Gimmeesugar · 11/11/2018 22:10

I’m being bullied at work. I’ll put some socks on that will stop it
