Is Hammersmith close to Shepherds Bush?

I'm going to the Shepherds Bush Empire and have been looking for somewhere to stay. Hammersmith keeps coming up in searches.
Is is walkable or would I need to get the tube?

I don’t know that part of London well enough to answer your question (they’re certainly not far from each other), but wanted to say that if you have a smart phone, get the citymapper app; it’s free and brilliant. It will show you all the options for getting from A to B.

MulderitsmeX · 11/11/2018 15:28

I wouldnt walk around shepherds bush at night.... depends what part of hammersmith but it is really close - you could easily get a bus.

Rockbird · 11/11/2018 15:29

Yes it's walkable but that doesn't mean you should. A taxi would only take a few minutes.

PavlovianLunge · 11/11/2018 15:30

According to citymapper, it should be walkable.

Yes and it’s totally walkable or one tube stop if you don’t want to walk about ten/fifteen minutes. It’s also ok at night as well, especially if you’re coming out of a gig and there’s loads of people around. I’ve lived here for 15 years and it’s very straightforward to get between the two areas.

EmpressAdultHumanFemale · 11/11/2018 15:35

There are plenty of buses going that way too, & you can pay with a contactless card.

Gimmeesugar · 11/11/2018 15:51

Why on earth would you not walk around there at night? It’s perfectly fine

SinglePringle · 11/11/2018 15:57

As PP, close (although Hammersmith is quite a big area) and I’d have no problem walking out of a gig / getting a bus / walking to the tune etc at night round there. It’s a busy area!

Cocolepew · 11/11/2018 16:20

Thanks for the replies .
I'll get that thanks Palovian.

It’s walkable. I can’t believe people don’t think you should walk. Obviously never do anything that makes you feel unsafe but I grew up around there and it’s no worse than any other part of any city and much safer than many places. It’s also pretty busy so not isolated and mostly well lit.

Cocolepew · 11/11/2018 16:26

I'm not familiar with the area at all but I presumed it would be ok coming out of a gig. There'd be loads of people around .

I agree with PP, you’ll be fine to walk. If you are going back to your hotel after the gig it’ll probably only be about 11pm. I wouldn’t necessarily walk around on my own at 3am, but at 11pm there’ll be people around.

LynetteScavo · 11/11/2018 17:16

I used to walk around that area at night a lot 20 years ago....unless things have changed dramatically, you'll be absolutely fine!

CarolDanvers · 11/11/2018 20:41

It's fine. At 11.00 pm shops will still be open or just closing and loads of people out and about. I'm quite surprised at those who think it isn't safe. Do you actually know the area at all?

CarolDanvers · 11/11/2018 20:43

OP if you let me know which hotels you're looking at I can tell you where they are in relation to SBE. There's a couple of lovely ones right nearby, one literally next door, but they're pretty expensive.

CrispbuttyNo1 · 11/11/2018 20:54

I’ve been to dozens of gigs there. After a gig it’s always really busy so walking around at midnight is fine, and no different to 7pm at night.

Cocolepew · 12/11/2018 10:07

Thanks Carol, its not til feb so I'm just musing atm. I like the look of the Ibis though .

OP posts:
CarolDanvers · 12/11/2018 10:15

The IBIS at W12 shopping centre? You can see it from SBE. It's a straight line walk down one road, alongside the green, about five minutes, if that. Also you're very near Westfield there, just across the road, two minutes walk and there's some nice bars and restaurants there, so you'll be able to pop in for a browse 😊

Cocolepew · 12/11/2018 12:22

Great, thank you!
