I have had the most awful pooey smell in one of my bedrooms for several months now. I have scrubbed it, cleared it all out, sprayed it with Smell & Odour removal, scrubbed the floor and skirting. And it is still there. PLEASE HEEEELP

Could there be something dead under floorboards?

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 11/11/2018 13:22

Have you cleaned your drains? Even if the pipes are not underneath the room it can still waft in.

Spirits of salts down all sinks, showers, baths, toilets will do it. Do not inhale it though.

Lucy Lugs. Would it still smell after all this time?
Days of Curly Spencer. There are no pipes or drains anywhere near this area. And surely I would get a waft coming through one of the plugholes wouldn't I?

Try smelling the electrical plug sockets. I once had the same thing and the smell was coming out of there! Something must have died behind the wall which was odd because it was a block of flats. I covered the plughole for a few weeks and by then the smell had gone.

Dead mouse under floorboards?

Hidingtonothing · 11/11/2018 15:11

Is the room near a toilet? There's a seal under the base of a loo to stop gases from the sewer coming up which can disintegrate over time so you get a smell, could that be it?

AdamNichol · 12/11/2018 09:26

There may be a problem with the trap in the waste of the sink/bath. If it's incorrectly installed and/or gone dry it won't stop sewer gasses rising thru the plug - and no amount of drain cleaner will get rid.
You might also want to get the outlet stack for your pipes isn't blocked. This is normally in the loft or out of the roof. If it's blocked, the smell will build up in the pipes until it finds another outlet somewhere.
