is bakeing soda and bicarbonate of soda the same thing

i know i sound daft but i can't find bakeing soda on the shop only bicarb
it's to clean the carpet not for cooking

Yes, baking soda is the American name, in the UK it’s bicarbonate of soda.

Yes it's the same. Baking soda is just bicarb. Baking powder is slightly different as I think it also has cream of tartar.

Baking powder is already acified, bicarbonate isnt - so get the bicarb and add a little lemon juice or cream of tartar tothe the same effect.

Usually in cleaning i use straight bicarbonate though.
