Who’s had Sky Q?

Due to get sky q, have an engineer booked, can anyone tell me what the installation process is and how long it’s likely to take please? We already have Sky if that makes a difference.

We have it; it really didn’t take long, but we only have one mini-box. I’m pretty sure they were done and dusted within an hour. The engineer left his details in case of any snags, and that was it.

Very pleased with Sky Q, not least because it has improved out WiFi greatly - though we’re quite rural, so standard speeds round our was are very slow.

Don’t forget to start a thread if (s)he asks to use your toilet. Wink Grin

Ahh brilliant Thankyou, we are only getting the one mini box too. Suppose I’m having a slight panic because we have a newborn and I probably haven’t kept up with housework as much as I’d like and now faced with having a stranger wandering all around the house, I could have picked better timing.

Glad to hear you’re pleased, our internet speeds round here aren’t brilliant.

Oh of course, I’ll be outraged WinkGrin

You’ll be fine, honestly. Our engineers (I’d forgotten, but there were two) went about the job calmly and quietly, and didn’t once comment on the vaguely organised chaos in Pav Towers. I even broke MN etiquette by making them tea.

Do talk to them about where best to position your mini box, as it really can help with your WiFi speeds. (It won’t work miracles, but I think you’ll see an improvement.)

Hope it all goes smoothly.

We have it, upgraded from an ancient Sky box. It didn't take long to install two boxes & our WiFi is so much faster now.

Don't worry about the house, trust me theyve seen worse. I booked to have sky q installed at the new house before I moved in, the house was still a complete shambles and they didn't bat an eyelid. Full inatall from scratch at my house and took less than an hour, that included putting up a dish and feeding wires. Much prefer sky Q, had the old sky at my last address and prefer everything about Q more.

MingoMingo · 10/11/2018 19:40

I’m really pleased I’ve gone for it now after hearing all these positive reviews.

I’ll just have to have a super quick whizz round before they come and stop panicking about it.

The engineer was done with us in about half hour! I just cleaned the tv unit and hovered around the back of it...

awesmum · 10/11/2018 22:40

I have, engineers were great, all 12 of them - as have had to have that many out to try and sort out the shockingly atrocious WiFi, dropping of tv and resetting of the entire system. Eventually have had to have the system hardwired in. It's still blooming awful. NEVER again. Waiting for the contract to run out so I can leave. In a word AWFUL!

ByeGermsByeWorries · 10/11/2018 22:47

My brother is a sky engineer :) if you already have sky they will change the receiver on the end of the dish over and run a new cable where the old one was. Doesn't take long.

Q is great if it works. My q box decided not to co operate with my router and wanted to do its own thing which made the WiFi unusable! ended up having to be hardwired so it would behave itself Blush

Can anyone explain, in simple terms, what the benefit of Sky Q is? It all seems a bit technical for me.

bobstersmum · 10/11/2018 23:01

We have had it about a year I think, the voice search is the best thing about it, you can even say quotes from films and it will find the film not all films though! For instance you could say life is like a box of chocolates, and it will bring up Forrest Gump!
We had additional boxes and it didn't take long. 30 mins perhaps, all in.

The memory of your Sky box is much much bigger.

You can record up to 5 programmes at once.

If you have a mini box you can watch what ever you have recorded on your main box in the room with the mini box. So you can pause what you're watching go into the bedroom and unpause it and watch from where you left off. Unlike the old multi room where you had to record on each box.

I love it. I'd definitely recommend it

My (adult) dd now has a sky box in her room and can watch what she wants. If she does record anything it does record to the main box. You can also continue watching programmes on tablets / ipads etc.

MingoMingo · 11/11/2018 12:33

Do you keep any sky store purchases or does it all disappear with the new box?

You keep them
