If you go to church/mosque/gurdwara....

Or any other place of worship, does the service include a prayer for the Royal Family?

Just back from syngagogue and every time we say a prayer for the RF I think how sweetly old fashioned it is. And how lovely in a way to include it when the RF are the heads of another religion, and also how it shows a reflection of when Jews came here.... how they wanted to respect the country they were in.

Just wondering whether other religions do this?

My church (of Scotland) will pray for our uniformed parties, paramedics, nurses, fire and rescue etc.

I remember the weekend before the Scottish referendum we prayed for compassionate politicians.

Don't ever recall a prayer for RF.

AnnieOH1 · 10/11/2018 14:38

I've known it at a local CofE/high church and also at every golf club dinner I've ever been to, but not at my own church.

Growingboys · 10/11/2018 14:39

That's lovely. My RC church doesn't do that routinely but they would say one if eg it was the Queen's birthday or something.

It’s a routine part of the closing prayer, so we say it every week. Interesting that the CoS doesn’t do it routinely.... is the Queen the head of that?

They do in the Orthodox church.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/11/2018 14:55

My parents Anglican Church prays for tree yak family and all In authority. My RC church does not. Unless it's a special occasion.

WaitrosePigeon · 10/11/2018 14:58

I go to a Pentecostal church and no we don’t.

cakesonatrain · 10/11/2018 15:26

tree yak must be a typo/autocorrect, but I can't work out what for!!!

fridaynightpasta · 10/11/2018 15:55

Never in my Catholic church... would be extremely unexpected to put it mildly.

Davros · 10/11/2018 16:37

The first time I went to a Jewish wedding I was surprised they toasted the Royal Family. Mind you, I'm not sure I'd ever been anywhere before that did any formal toasts

AsleepAllDay · 10/11/2018 16:40

Not in a mosque

NannyR · 10/11/2018 16:43

I go to an Anglican church and I can't ever remember praying specifically for the royal family in the weekly service. We did have a garden party for the queens birthday (90?) a couple of years ago so maybe we prayed for her then.

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/11/2018 16:46

I go to a rather modern, evangelical sort of Anglican/CofE church - no prayers for the royals there

VisitorsEntrance · 10/11/2018 16:47

I’m off to pray to the tree yak family now.

BertramKibbler · 10/11/2018 16:47

Catholic Church - no.

CherryPavlova · 10/11/2018 16:50

In the Anglican next door, yes always. In our Catholic, not directly but for heads of state and world leaders to be granted wisdom and courage.

ClaudiaWankleman · 10/11/2018 16:57

Catholic Church - the royal family appear in bidding prayers with semi regularity. Mostly when they are in the news, included as part of the regular bidding prayer themes, eg. when praying for sick members of the parish.

Heismyopendoor · 10/11/2018 16:59

Non denom Christian church and it’s not something we have ever prayed for

HildaZelda · 10/11/2018 17:33

I'm a (very) lapsed Catholic. It's been quite a while since I've gone to mass, but no. I'm assuming it may be because the Queen isn't the head of the Catholic church.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 10/11/2018 18:18

I’m Baptist and we’ve never done this.

MrsFionaCharming · 10/11/2018 19:22

Methodist and I’ve never heard of this.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 10/11/2018 19:58

Church of England and no, not generally. Maybe once or twice in the last 3 years, when there's been something relevant in the news (H&M's wedding for example).

PurpleCrazyHorse · 10/11/2018 19:59

More regularly for world leaders, for peace and wisdom in the current climate.

sproutsandparsnips · 10/11/2018 20:02

Church in Wales, and it's in the intercessions.
'Bless thy servant Elizabeth our Queen and those who exercise authority under her'
Is that what you meant?
