What can't you do that most people can?

My son has just started cubs and got his new uniform plus a load of badges to sew on. I was given them and asked for them to be on for Sunday's remembrance service. I thought fair enough i sewed a cushoin at school once went and bought some thread and needle and have now been sitting here for 2hours and have taken the first one off 4 times as it's either wonky or looks shit. Blush

So what average things can't you do?

Click my fingers

MemoryOfSleep · 09/11/2018 22:44

Click my fingers, wink, whistle through my fingers or with a blade of grass.

@noitsachicken move your thumb as far away from your first finger (the pointer one) as you can. On your left hand it makes an L. On the right hand it makes a backwards L. I do this all the time to check.

IncomingCannonFire · 09/11/2018 22:49

Aerobics. By the time I've figured out the move they've moved on.
Not bite my nails.

kayakingmum · 09/11/2018 22:50

Close my right eye while keeping left open.

Chelsea26 · 09/11/2018 22:56

Jazz hands - my left hand doesn’t move

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 09/11/2018 22:58

Click my fingers.

DPotter · 09/11/2018 23:02

Youngsharon - I can't blow my nose either! Thought it was just me!

ourkidmolly · 09/11/2018 23:05

Tie my shoelaces. I need to make two bows and loop them together.

Donthugmeimscared · 09/11/2018 23:12

Thanks for the fabric glue idea.

There are quite a few things on thisisnt I can't do.

I can't tie laces properly I just make two loops and cross them.

I can't click my fingers.

I get numbers back to front when copying them.

I also can't tie knots. I just can't seem to get my head round it. I would be absolutely useless at survival.

On the plus side I can build an ikea wardrobe without getting stressed.

Ride a bike.

worriedgem · 09/11/2018 23:21

Use chopsticks.

Anything at all to do with directions. I know my left and right but if someone asked me to describe a straightforward route I take every day I couldn't.

minniemoll · 09/11/2018 23:24

I can't remember things in sequence (eg poetry, lines in a play, dance moves, song lyrics) but I have a very good memory for trivia.

I also can't do mental arithmetic despite having two A Levels and the best part of a degree in maths.

Stefoscope · 09/11/2018 23:26

Change the bed covers well first time on anything larger that a single bed. Duvet ends up crumpled into a corner and pillows crooked in their cases. Just get in the car and drive somewhere without worrying and overthinking it despite having passed my test over a year ago!

Ofthread · 09/11/2018 23:27

I'm a really good dancer (even if I do say so myself!) but I cannot look at choreography (e.g. in ballet class) and copy it for the life of me. Once I know steps or sequences I remember them forever but copying them is much more difficult for me than for other people.

Gilead · 09/11/2018 23:29

For those who can’t swallow tablets, I have got loads of people to manage this by using fizzy drinks. No idea why it works, but it does!

elliejjtiny · 09/11/2018 23:30

Drive
Spread butter on bread.

MooChops89 · 09/11/2018 23:30

I can't roll my R's, it really frustrates me! I've tried watching YouTube tutorials and everything Grin

Ofthread · 09/11/2018 23:30

I am also a pretty good singer (again - even if I do say so myself!) and I can copy and reproduce notes and whole songs really well but ask me to improvise - no way, can't do it, I go out of tune straight away.

RagingWhoreBag · 09/11/2018 23:32

Use a PC. I’ve only ever used Apple computers so I don’t know how to use Windows/Microsoft etc, don’t know what left click and right click are for. I’ve never used Word or Excel. There are similar apps on my Mac but I don’t really know how to use them very well either!

I’m pretty good at most other things (single parent, no choice!) but I do often think job hunting would be so much easier if I had a clue about using a PC.

I’m shit at dancing and can’t remember song lyrics (I’m in a choir and one of the few who always has to have a music folder for concerts Blush ) but most things mentioned here are ok.

ClinkyMonkey · 09/11/2018 23:32

If it makes you feel any better, OP, I had similar trouble sewing on my son's badges. I had the round purple one on and off three times before it looked pretty straight, then he came home from Cubs and told me someone had said 'I thought you were invested last week. Where's your badge?' It was practically under his armpit. Looked alright when the sweatshirt was lying flat!

Thing is, I quite like sewing.

RagingWhoreBag · 09/11/2018 23:35

Fall asleep "as soon as my head hits the pillow". Though I believe the people who say that are fibbing.. My DP can fall asleep practically mid sentence! He can honestly be saying something one minute and by the time I answer he’s snoring. Sleepy little bear that he is.

LooksLikeImStuckHere · 09/11/2018 23:35

Don’t glue them on, sometimes they need to be removed!

However, you can use pritt stick or washable glue to hold in place while you sew (leave glue to dry first, obv). Or use tape across the badge while you sew down one side and keep adjusting it as you go.

I can’t use chopsticks or dance. Especially not at the same time though.

Weezol · 09/11/2018 23:39

Boil a dippy egg. I have tried every gadget, timer and technique and it just doesn't work, ever.

Bake a cake. As above. I've even used an oven thermometer. My last attempt at a basic sponge produced a pair of hubcaps.

Weirdly, I can bake anything savoury to absolute perfection.

Chelsea26 · 09/11/2018 23:41

Also, to make you feel better OP, my mum sewed my badges on, all fine. I was so excited to put on my uniform but i couldn’t. She’d sewed the entire sleeve together!!

toastedbeagle · 09/11/2018 23:42

If you tell me a number out loud I will write down a totally different one. I found this out during my French listening GCSE - I can't do it in French and turns out I can't do it in English either!
