Do you need a "proper" shower in the main bathroom?

We are about to start work on our house. This involves taking out the existing main bathroom and moving it to a smaller room. We will be putting in two extra ensuites and a shower room downstairs. We are a family of 6. DH and I will have an ensuite. 2 of the DC will share an ensuite which will also be the guest bathroom if we have visitors. The main bathroom will be predominantly used by the 2 other DC.
As it is a small bathroom we can't fit a shower and a bath in there. I proposed to DH that we have a bath with freestanding taps and shower so we avoid having a shower curtain. He doesn't think this is acceptable and thinks the DC need a "proper" stand in shower. We will have three other showers in the house so I think they can use these if not happy with the bath option. We have a period property and I was going to go for a classic Victorian look.
What do you think? Do we need to have a stand in shower?
Apologies for the first world problem!

There is no need for another shower, I would consider a shower either over the bath or a mixer type shower for the bathroom though - realistically that will not be used for showering.
