Hob in rented property

When I moved into this flat the gas hob was always lit using an ignition device- one of those long clicky sticks. There was an ignition button on the hob which never worked. The property has an up to date gas safety certificate.

Am I within rights to request that the ignition switch be fixed? Or is it OK for the landlord to not carry out this work and just say I have to use the separate ignition device?

If you moved into it like that and it was like that on the inventory and you didn’t challenge it then he has no obligation to fix/change it.
You can request it but he would be well within his rights to say no

It might just be a battery that needs replacing. Is it really that onerous to light it with the gas lighter though?

Or has the fuse in the plug gone?

When we had a gas hob, first thing to check when the clicky spark wasn't co-operating was if either the fuse had gone, or someone had accidentally switched the plug off.

Our ignition has a red switch on the wall, we've had one in a cupboard - have you checked if there's one at yours?
