Do you have "go to" music to cheer yourself up if having a bad day/mood

Crap day and I'm listening to Nick Cave and it really feels oddly reassuring.

Sometimes in a bad mood the Smiths very loud is great.

I've been trying to think of some more cheerful stuff!

I do, a band called The Used. Never fails to "fix" me

Revengers18 · 09/11/2018 12:33

Happy song is Luther Vandross Never Too Much, always uplifts me!! Love that I can sing along to it as loud as I want in my car although sometimes my children have to put up with my wailing bad singing!

Angry song is Numb by linkin park ft Jay-Z, I belt that one out too and instantly feel better!

darklady64 · 09/11/2018 12:58

This never fails

Bezalelle · 09/11/2018 14:02

Cesaria Evora's "Carnaval de São Vicente". So uplifting!

Planesmistakenforstars · 09/11/2018 14:36

I have a Eurovision/Euro pop playlist for these days. It is truly tack-tastic. The music I otherwise listen to is NOTHING like this.

Athena51 · 09/11/2018 15:17

I have certain songs that really cheer me up although I have always been inclined to like dark and gloomy music (I love Nick Cave!) I was a Goth in the 1980s Smile

My go-to cheer up songs are Editions of You and Do the Strand by Roxy Music and 'These Days' by REM, they never fail.

GoldenBuns · 09/11/2018 15:22

Bezalelle - I love Cesaria Evora - I feel like I'm on holiday when I listen to her!

Stevie Wonder always lifts my mood and I am partial to a bit of big band/swing.

Having said that, sometimes something gloomy and familiar is very soothing. I love Nick Cave too, or Tindersticks.

GoldenBuns · 09/11/2018 15:29

DH says he can always tell when I'm really sad, because I'll listen to Neil Young!

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 09/11/2018 15:35

80s power ballads or 90s rap

Foncy · 09/11/2018 15:38

George Ezra - Paradise or Shotgun
Picture House - Heavenly day

Stinkycheeseandbreadcrumbs · 09/11/2018 15:58

I'm going to check out some of these tonight.

I haven't listened to Stevie Wonder in years. I used to love Inner Visions.

Hurt by Johnny Cash if I want to get lower.

Screamadelica album by Primal Scream if I want to be uplifted.

TheHobbitMum · 09/11/2018 16:01

Pretty much anything from Ferocious Dog or Gaz Brookfield

JoinTheDots · 09/11/2018 16:02

Anything by The Bluetones, but Expecting to Fly probably lifts me most.

Sirzy · 09/11/2018 16:04

I normally stick some Rae Morris on. Helps relax and cheer up

Fishandthechips · 09/11/2018 16:05

I find I feel really grounded when I listen to 'The Gaslight Anthem'. I think ive been listening to them for so long that it just makes me feel normal again if that makes sense.

winterinmadeira · 09/11/2018 16:05

Rio by Duran Duran or look of love by ABC if I’m feeling retro. It Always makes me feel better somehow.

planechocolate · 09/11/2018 16:37

Soundtrack to Hairspray, or 'Every little thing she does is magic' by The Police, or 'Money for nothing' by Dire Straits, or 'You can't hurry love' - the Phil Collins version.

Athena51 · 09/11/2018 16:42

@winterinmadeira

Shrieking Singing the 'hip hip hooray, yippee aye, yippee aye yay yay' bit of The Look of Love makes me ridiculously happy Smile

BearSoFair · 09/11/2018 17:27
it's not cool but it works every time!

'Come outside and see a brand new day
The troubles in your mind will blow away
It's easy to believe they here to stay
But you won't find them standing in your way' Smile

BlessYourCottonSocks · 09/11/2018 18:13

"It's the End of the World" by REM.

Great lyrics, chirpy tune.

Whatsthatbrightlght · 09/11/2018 19:10

Anything from Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours album. I also bake when I’m fed up. If ever DH comes in to the smell of cakes and the sound of Rumours he knows not to take his coat off! Grin

causeimunderyourspell · 09/11/2018 19:18

Love a bit of two door cinema club, 2 of their albums are just ridiculously bouncy and make me smile inside!!
