Do you have "go to" music to cheer yourself up if having a bad day/mood

Crap day and I'm listening to Nick Cave and it really feels oddly reassuring.

Sometimes in a bad mood the Smiths very loud is great.

I've been trying to think of some more cheerful stuff!

Love George Ezra as a pp said.. makes me happy.

Go-to cheer up music for me is Gangnam Style because I can't be sad while trying to do the dance. Some of his other songs also cheer me up, like Napal Baji.

#SELFIE also cheers me up because it's a song I sing with my brother to annoy my mum (in good humour) but I know a lot of people don't like it.

Anything by Abba!!

Crappygilmore · 10/11/2018 06:04

Crappy day
August and everything after - counting crows
Together Alone - crowded house
Every other non crappy day
Anthing by The Levellers
Frank Turner
3 Daft Monkeys
Ferocious Dog

I’m usually into vintage Bowie and Velvet Underground, but on a down day nothing perks me up like Kelly Marie’s Feels Like I’m In Love. I always snigger at the crappy syn drums and the memory of the terrible dance routine.

In a non-ironic way, swing always cheers me up in the winter but it has to be the Beach Boys in the summer.

Christmas music actually makes me feel so much better! Had a shit day yesterday so whacked the Christmas music channel on and it cheered me up no end!

Stinkycheeseandbreadcrumbs · 10/11/2018 07:17

The thread itself is cheerful. I love how you can feel poster's love of music when they talk about it.

I've got crowded house on at the moment. I'm going to put together a (very eclectic!) play list this morning.

Raggae lift me up. Love this thread!

BornInTheSeventies · 10/11/2018 10:19

@TyrannosaurusBex

I love that Kellie Marie song! The video is so funny now - the makeup, the repetitive lyrics, the shininess, the strange dancers... 😂

Velvet Underground’s Sunday Morning & Who Loves The Sun always cheer me up.

Bracknellite · 10/11/2018 10:42

Three songs, the playing order is important-

Chandelier by Sia to reflect on the bad mood
Fuel my Fire by The Prodigy to have a good shout
19/2000 by Gorillaz to cheer up

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 10/11/2018 11:26

Echo and the Bunnymen - A Promise never fails on any occasion. (ex Goth here too!)

Most 90s reggae works on a guilty pleasure level - Boom Shak A Lak by Apache Indian, Twist and Shout by Chaka Demus and Pliers, O Carolina by Shaggy - all will usually end up with me dancing around the kitchen with DD while DH heads for the hills with earplugs.

If I feel justafiably cross, anything from Fear of a Black Planet goes down a treat. Grin

colouringinpro · 10/11/2018 11:44

Ozzy yours is fab, thanks

pearlydewdropsdrops · 10/11/2018 11:47

any rave / late 90s euro-cheese. strictly with headphones on as dh rips the piss something awful, with good reason.

Artemisia /Azzido da Bass / ATB / Basement Jaxx etc
Ha ha YYY to Kelly Marie; any other pish on Clubscene / Bonkers; Special D / Hixxy etc

The thing is that I normally listen to the Velvet Underground, Bowie, Can, Hookworms, Aphex Twin etc. I suppose it does me good to get my head out from up my bum although I wouldn't like to make a habit of it

TyrannosaurusBex fancy a night out? Grin

Flopjustwantscoffee · 10/11/2018 12:39

For soothing/meloncholy music: pale blue eyes by velvet underground/silent face by new order/anything by Belle and Sebastian. Then followed by happy music : birdhouse in your soul by they might be giants m.youtube.com/watch?v=NhjSzjoU7OQ or shake it of by Taylor Swift.

Flopjustwantscoffee · 10/11/2018 12:40

Or Mika

TyrannosaurusBex · 10/11/2018 14:22

TyrannosaurusBex · 10/11/2018 14:25

SamanthaJayne4 · 14/11/2018 08:51

Green Day angry songs , I usually end up laughing. At the lyrics expressing how I feel, love Green Day. F.O.D. , Platypus I Hate You, Favourite Son.
