London Christmas light by bus

Kez0777 · 08/11/2018 22:41

Hi, me and my sister are heading to London at the beginning of December for a fabulous childfree weekend
On the Saturday we are planning to go to Oxford Street for some window shopping and then we are booked into The Ivy soho for tea at 5.30pm.
We fancy taking a bus to see the lights once it's got dark and before the Ivy but what is the best way to do this by normal bus and not a tour? Is it possible or going to take us too far out of our way?
Many thanks

Number 10 bus from Marble Arch goes the length of Oxford Street. Try & get the seats at the front on the top deck for the best views.

The 390 goes from Tottenham Ct Rd tube to Marble Arch but really, I’d just walk it.

Or you could go for a drink at Aqua on Argyl St as they’ve got a roof terrace that overlooks Oxford and Regents St. Selfridges and Jonn Lewis might have theirs open again this year. Don’t forget to look at Selfridges amazing windows this year! And walk down Carnaby St - their lights are also good this year.

I would always walk around London for the lights. Definitely not bus unless you have mobility issues.

The Christmas lights around Soho are often worth a wander too - Carnaby Street has quite flamboyant displays and there were some gorgeous colour-changing giant lightbulbs a few years ago.

If you have time stay on the 10 for the Harrods/Harvey Nichols displays, or get off at Knightsbridge and head towards Sloane Square for the pretty lights in the trees there, and the shimmery lights on Peter Jones.

I'd normally walk too, but the crowds on the pavements on Saturdays will be a bit thick and you'll get hustled along; I'd grab a hot chocolate and sit on the top deck of the bus for the best views.

Thank you all, the number 10 bus sounds like a winner Smile
We are hoping to get up to the John Lewis roof bar if it's not too busy and then we'll walk down Carnaby Street when we head to soho. I always love their lights.
After tea at The Ivy soho we'll be having drinks around soho and Covent Garden so if anyone could recommend and good bars that would be great Wine
