Christmas City Break (UK)

Does anyone live in a city in the UK that gets lovely and festive at Christmas time? Not London preferably. We're looking for a nice festive city break.

Can’t link but there was an article in the guardian maybe last year about nice places for festive winter breaks
Wells in Somerset was one of them which I fancied

I've been to Edinburgh a few times over Xmas. Very festive indeed but freezing!

Bath is lovely, really feels festive when the Christmas market is on. 3 Abbey Green is a great place to stay, really central.

Actually over Christmas or just before? With or without children?

Seconding Edinburgh - that's where we are going this Christmas. We went 4 years ago and it was lovely (made even better by my daughter's boyfriend proposing!) To her, not me, just to be clear

York is lovely.

Bath Christmas market is fabulous. I have heard good things about Winchester, but never actually been there.

Bath Christmas market finishes 9th December.
