Liverpool - where is all the gin?!

Going to Liverpool in a few weeks with a girlfriend for a weekend away. We're staying city centre but don't know the city at all. Where shall we head for bars, restaurants?

We're the wrong side of 40 so prefer bars where we can sit and hear each other, and I really doubt we'll be heading for any clubs 🙈 Just places with good gin or cocktails where we can gossip and put the world to right.

We're maybe thinking of afternoon tea on the Saturday... any recommendations?

All ideal for cocktails and food.

*The alcamist
*Berry and rye (hidden little bar need to knock for entry)
*Neighbourhood
*The allotment
*florist (instaworthy floral walls, such pretty bar)
*frederiks
*blind tiger
*oh me oh my
*Panoramic 34 (awesome views of the city)

Thanks, will have a look at all of these... loving the idea of a hidden bar as well!

The ex directory bar.

You have to call to make a booking and then you enter in an old fashioned red telephone box. It's a secret bar you will
Not get in without a booking.

It's an amazing cocktail bar.

I won't say anything else in case I ruin it for you but have a look online.

In 39 and we go all the time.

Really recommend Gospel Choir Sunday lunch at Alma de Cuba. Good food, fab surroundings (converted church), ace music.

ginever has a great range, based on hope st which has great bars and restauranrts

Bowchicawowow · 08/11/2018 19:10

Jenever on Hope Street is a gin bar and very cosy. The Pen Factory which is pretty much next door is nice too. When you eat out Mowgli on Bold Street do fabulous gin cocktails.

My DD lives in Liverpool and I want her to buy me Liverpool Rose Petal gin for Christmas. She says am I sure I will like it?
Can you try it for me and let me know if its nice?????

Also the rooftop bar in St James Street. Gorgeous views across the waterfront.
Heaters and blankets if it's chilly.
They do the best Liverpool Gin.
Another of our regulars.

The Alchemist!

Wow, some great choices thank you.

And of course, I'll do my best to try the rose petal gin and report back 👌

Yes, Genever is great. Don't much like the Pen Factory however - a bit too trendy for my liking and also gets verycrowded at busy times.

Daisywho · 09/11/2018 12:20

Definitely Panoramic 34, they do afternoon tea (with booze option) and last time I went at this time of year it was just about the most twinkly, Christmassy, gorgeous place I’d been in years! Could definitely settle in for a good gossip and a few cocktails there plus the views are amazing. Highly recommend. Might need to book though.

I was going to say hope you have a brilliant time but.. of course you will, it’s Liverpool. 😍✨

caperplips · 09/11/2018 12:25

I echo Genever - great bar!
I also loved the Blind Boys School but looks like it it closed now
I had a very nice porn star martini in Vincent too
Love Liverpool!

MrsAmaretto · 09/11/2018 12:31

Another one saying definitely have afternoon tea at Panoramic 34. Food was amazing, view was amazing and we stayed for a couple of fab cocktails afterwards. You need to book and it’s well worth it. It was my first visit to Liverpool too
