Parking fine for hire car

I've been contacted by the hire company about a parking fine incurred during the time I had their car. It's from a car park I've never been to, although it's a twenty minute drive from where I work. I will tell them this of course. I can probably get a copy of the access system records for my card from work to show that I couldn't have been there at the time they allege - I can't remember exactly what time I left the office, but I wouldn't have had long enough to get there iyswim. I also bought petrol that day on my way home somewhere a forty minute drive away from the car park, probably around the same time and should still have the receipt. Anything else I can do? I suspect a vehicle with a very similar number plate is the one that didn't park or overstayed.

Didn't pay, not park.

Just tell them it wasn't you and that you can prove it if necessary.

Turns out someone at the rental company had picked the wrong registration from their list of vehicles when they'd had the ANPR info through from the parking company and it was a mistake.
