First off I'm not sure if posts like this are allowed but I feel I have to share this...

Marley, a 7 year old boy is desperate for a donor and time seems to be running out to find a match for him.

Please can I urge you to join the bone marrow register or if you're not eligible to donate then please share on Facebook etc so we can find someone who is

www.dkms.org.uk/en (ages 17-55)

You can read more about Marley here or search Marrow for Marley on Facebook

Threads urging people to give blood aren’t deleted, so I hope s thread urging people to consider registering as a bone marrow donor.

I read an obituary for Joan Macfarlane who died last month. Back in 1973, she was the donor in the first ever successful bone-marrow transplant when the donor was related, the obituary was written by the recipient.

We still need more people on the registers. I hope people will consider it. It’s truly life saving,

For also in 1973 there was another little boy desperately in need of a donor. None of the people who had been tested in the search that found Joan were a match. But that boy’s mother was determined that there should be proper, permanent, international bone marrow registers because that would save lives, her son died, still waiting. His name is Anthony Nolan

If you give blood, you can register there next time you donate. Just tell them when they're doing your paperwork and they'll give you an extra form to sign and that's essentially it (they draw one additional testing vial alongside the others they do anyhow, so unless your nosily attentive, you wouidn't notice the difference)

I'm on the bone marrow register and am donating blood on Friday. I hope your post gets a few more people to register, as far as I know it's still just a blood sample you have to give to go on the register. Then you are on the register until you (or more accurately if ) you match with someone. Really hope you get a match. Big hugs X X

Yeah I donate blood too, it really is as simple as ticking a box to give your consent to be on the bone marrow register too.

FFS - just noticed a rather important typing mistake.

Joan McFarlane was the donor in the first successful bone-marrow transplant when the donor was unrelated.
