Can I have some advice from any black/mixed race parents out there?

Hi!

If someone was to buy your child a black Barbie as a birthday present, would you prefer it to the generic blonde one, or would you feel offended that the other (white) parent was making an issue out of your child’s race where none needed to be?

If that makes sense!

Any advice received.

I would have loved a black barbie for myself, as a child. I would love it if someone bought one as a gift for my child.

Why is it an issue?

I'm mixed race and I had both Barbies as a child. it was nice to have representations of both of my ethnicities in toys :)

I don’t know if it is an issue Lemon- that’s why I’m asking. I just don’t want to look like a patronising bitch.

Should clarify that when I said other parent, I forgot to say I’m talking about another parent of your child’s school friends. It’s for a party my youngest has been invited to.

I buy a specific make of doll for a special little girl. They come in a variety of hair and skin colours (even some with glasses) and she loves that some look like her, some like her friends and teachers, and there's even one that has my colouring.

We buy dolls pretty indiscriminately for our mixed race DD, but I did make sure to have some that looked like her, and it's lovely that others go to the effort of finding them for gifts

Thanks all xx

So have you chosen the doll?
