Genetic testing results

I've been waiting two months for the results of my sons genetic testing. I rang his consultants secretary for something else and asked on the off chance if the results were back which they were. His secretary obviously couldn't tell me the results but his consultant is now on leave for this week and next. Apparently no one else is able to tell me the results and if they are fine the consultant will write to me to tell me that. Typically it takes her 8-10 weeks to send reports to me so it could be months away. I'm so stressed out and worried. I just wish someone could tell me that either it was fine or make me an appointment to discuss the results

Is this the usual practice? I wish I hadn't asked if the results were back as I can't eat properly now stressing about them.

Yes completely normal unfortunately. I did the exact same for my sons genetic test, rang to ask if I could be told what the results were, I was told the only way was to make an appointment months in advance because they couldn’t tell me over the phone. To be fair it wasn’t as straight forward as a positive or a negative really, there was a lot of explaining to do and it was better for the geneticist to explain it face to face.

The problem is there simply isn't enough slack built into a hospital doctors work day for another doctor to sit down with your DCs notes, get a proper understanding of the clinical history and give you a suitable telephone consultation.

Something more generic like vitamin D and I'd expect another doctor to give a quick call or fax the results to the GP.

Ah oh no. I thought that would be the case to be honest. It's just so stressful. I really wish I hadn't asked and had just waited to hear.
