Would you have stayed with this man at the side of the road?

I live rurally. It's been raining heavily here tonight.

On the way home from work, I got to my least favourite part of the journey: a back road (more like a lane) which is awfully narrow and full of pot holes. You rarely meet another car here and no houses or anything for miles. Another car was coming from the opposite direction and pulled right in to the side to give way to me. Unfortunately he ended up getting his front wheel stuck in the mud and couldn't move.

I offered to give the man a lift somewhere if it was close by. He refused.

We were both getting a crappy reception on our phones but he eventually managed to get through to his breakdown company. They estimated a 2 hour wait due to our location and the fact he was in no danger.

He again refused my offer of a lift somewhere or to contact someone once i got to an area with a better signal.

Not sure what else I could have done. Feel really guilty as he was trying to be nice moving over for me. Now i'm home, nice and warm, and he's likely going to be stuck sitting in his car for 2 hours.

Nothing more you could have done really

He didn't want to be responsible for you. Easier to relax into his crappy situation without bothering someone else with it. I might have left my number with him to say I could come back if he never got any other help to arrive.

Is it far? Could you take him back a cup of tea? Thats all I can think of that you could do!
