Would you walk through the woods at night?

Pitch black at 6pm, with no lights. So dark you can't see your own feet.

The walk is about 10 minutes.

I have done night walks
in deepest France - Wild Boar
in the Spanish Pyrenees - Boar, Lynx and bears
in Slovenia - ditto plus wolves
in New Hampshire - Bear and Coyotes
and in the New Forest - Badgers and foxes

Night walks are good for the brain. Everybody should do them

DioneTheDiabolist · 06/11/2018 20:32

I wouldn't without a torch because I'd be afraid of falling or stepping in animal poo/ big muddy bits.

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 06/11/2018 20:34

I go out at night sometimes, to do photography....I do usually take dh with me, but if I am just nicking out up the back I'll go alone and it is exhilarating

as BluthsFrozenBananas said, it is very easy to be overcome with that inbuilt primeval fear of the dark though, you have to keep a hold of yourself! I'd sooner walk through the woods than drive though certain local towns at night.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 06/11/2018 20:35

With my iPhone torch and my big dog I do. On my own, never!

Swanhild · 06/11/2018 20:35

All the time, often in the early hours of the morning if I can’t sleep and it’s a nice night. Very rural area.

WeeM · 06/11/2018 20:39

No chance but I’m a wimp too. And does anyone remember that thread on here about the woman in the house in the country with the dog that ran out and was barking at something and then something ran past her or something like that....may not have been true but the way it was written fucking terrified me!

WeeM · 06/11/2018 20:39

Sorry, too many somethings! Confused

Sitranced · 06/11/2018 20:40

In the middle of nowhere like the Highlands, darkest Northumberland or a tiny village in Wales - yes.

In any urban area near civilization - nope.

LorelaiRoryEmily · 06/11/2018 20:41

Absolutely no way! I won’t even go out into mum own back gardens in the dark if DH isn’t home. I’m a complete wimp🤣

Magair · 06/11/2018 20:42

How drunk am I?

Caprisunorange · 06/11/2018 20:44

Sounds so romantic when you put it like that swanhild

NotUmbongoUnchained · 06/11/2018 20:44

I can’t even walk across my landing in the dark Grin

Yes! And werewolves.

Caprisunorange · 06/11/2018 20:46

Well some, yes duchess. How are you surprised by that?

theworldistoosmall · 06/11/2018 20:47

That country dog house one was ace.

Would I walk through the woods? Depends on my state of mind at the time, unfortunately, as there are times that I do take ridiculous risks.

Kintan · 06/11/2018 20:48

I’d love to walk alone in the woods at dark, but sadly as a lone woman I would not feel safe - not from animals or spirits, but from other humans intent on harm.

theworldistoosmall · 06/11/2018 20:48

DuchessStabby are you new on here and haven't seen the posters crapping themselves because someone has knocked on the door at 8 pm?

MeganChips · 06/11/2018 20:49

Not a chance in hell. I don’t like being out on my own in the dark. I’m a big baby but the worst thing is my imagination.

PositivelyPERF · 06/11/2018 20:50

I used to love walking through the fields in the dark, only lite by the moon. I still enjoy walking on the beach, as there’s usually the odd person about. Walking through the woods in a residential area? No thank you. Having met enough creeps during the day, I wouldn’t fancy running into them at night.

Knowivedonewrong · 06/11/2018 20:50

Only with my unreasonable Golden Retriever.

OnceUponATimeInAmerica · 06/11/2018 20:52

In a properly remote area, yes. Where someone would be really having to go out of their way to loiter with dubious intent on the rare off chance of a night time rambler.

Here, on the local heathland/woods between our large village and the next, not a chance. Too many people of less than sound character use it as a cut through between the villages. The state of it on weekend mornings after people have wandered their way home from pubs and parties, abandoning bottles (and condoms 🤮) for the more responsible locals to clear up is hideous and highly suggests it would not be safe.

halfwitpicker · 06/11/2018 20:52

No way.

hiddeneverything · 06/11/2018 20:52

Nope. Ghosts/clowns might get me or someone might be hanging from a tree in front of me. All really likely to happen, I know

maddiemookins16mum · 06/11/2018 20:53

Nope. I’ve watched too many scary films and shouted at the female who takes a short cut through the woods, in the dark etc.
