Would you walk through the woods at night?

Pitch black at 6pm, with no lights. So dark you can't see your own feet.

The walk is about 10 minutes.

Yes I have done many times. I freaked myself out a few times and ran instead but the rest was ok :D

DramaAlpaca · 06/11/2018 19:48

No. I walked the dogs through the woods last week just as it was getting dark & scared myself silly. It's a very safe, rural area. I won't be doing it again

DinosApple · 06/11/2018 19:50

Not if there had been any 'incidents'.

I don't mind a night hike on my own, but I'm not keen on woods. It's very easy to get disorientated at night in woods unless the path is clear.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 06/11/2018 19:52

No.

The original, ancient meaning of the word panic is the fear you feel walking in the woods. Fear of walking in the woods alone at night is a very primordial human emotion, probably with good reason.

CoolCarrie · 06/11/2018 19:55

No definitely not. I walk our dogs on the golf course near us, and that’s fine, but we head home 5 mins away when it gets to dusk.

titchy · 06/11/2018 20:00

I do this every day to get home from station! Decent footwear and a torch essential.

However naice area and no reported incidents in the 10 years I've been doing it and depending on which train I'm on there can be a line of people in suits traipsing along the same path! I'm often the only one though.

ForalltheSaints · 06/11/2018 20:01

Used to live near one and would not, even with a torch.

Yourcupwillneverempty · 06/11/2018 20:03

Oh fuck no. Even if we drive through a wooded type road at night I get shivers. I'm terrified of the 'dark', even in my own house at night I'm jumpy at every noise and can't sleep if I'm alone. It's the supernatural for me, I'll happily go through any of the dodgy estates in my area (London) but alone in my own house with all the windows and doors locked up to the nines I'm like a mouse.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 06/11/2018 20:04

Nope. The wolves might get me.

Nope. We have woods behind our house and they're lovely, but I wouldn't walk through them after dark. They can be a bit creepy on a dull winter's day!

cushioncovers · 06/11/2018 20:06

Nope

Sexnotgender · 06/11/2018 20:09

Nope! I’m a wuss.

huggybear · 06/11/2018 20:09

Do you think people are hiding behind the trees ready to jump out?

Caprisunorange · 06/11/2018 20:12

Nope. I am not even really scared of being attacked. Just spooky darkness

RedneckStumpy · 06/11/2018 20:14

I do this regularly, in the woods of Maine.

Rule 1: No torches, they freak me out. Because when you shine the torch you get the reflections of eyes of all the animals hunting you.

Rule 2: make sure you are armed.

Rule 3: take the dog and watch his body language. If he freaks out you know their are bears or wolves about.

Dychmygol · 06/11/2018 20:15

It depends on so many variables...
Where are the woods?
What's nearby?
What kind of floor surface is there?
What footwear do I have/is it pre-planned?

I'm not generally spooked by the dark but I'm not blasè with my personal safety either. A woodland with a clearly defined path which doesn't have a dodgy pub/estate/institute nearby would be a pleasant wander in the dark.

A rugged woodland or one that provides coverage for local misfits would be less appealing unless there was a very decent reason to use the woods as a walkway rather than well lit and populous routes.

sickmumma · 06/11/2018 20:22

No! Me and a friend (with our large dogs) once got lost walking a woods and it started to get dark! Scariest half an hour of my life!!

Quite happy to walk in the local woods daytime with the dog and I know some people are wary walking alone even in daytime.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 06/11/2018 20:22

Nope.

MyKingdomForBrie · 06/11/2018 20:24

Hell no, much too scared of ghosts/axe murders!

Caprisunorange · 06/11/2018 20:25

Make sure you’re armed Grin with what in the U.K.? A large stick? Lol

BrazzleDazzleDay · 06/11/2018 20:29

No chance. There's woods out the back and unless it was an emergency I wouldn't enter them in the dark. I do love a walk through woods in daylight though

CathKidneyston · 06/11/2018 20:30

Nope. Not scared of ghosts but rapists/ doggers/ yoofs

CathKidneyston · 06/11/2018 20:31

Oh and murderers!

Cauliflowersqueeze · 06/11/2018 20:32

That’ll be a NOPE from me
