My DH can’t remember the title or author, but says somebody on MN will surely know it.
Set in Sydney Australia around 1945.
It’s a crime type of novel, main character is a young girl, around 18 yo, who has been in and out of Borstal, now working as a barmaid in a pub on Sydney Harbour.
Her uncle is a crime boss , living in Palm Beach.
