Very heavy bleeding after copper coil?!

Had the coil fitted about 2 weeks ago, Iv had light bleeding since but now it’s really heavy! It could be my period but it’s not due for another week. I’m filling my moon cup every hour and it’s full of small clots. The cramping is awful too!

Is this going to be my life forever 😫😫

Also, I can see why it’s effective against pregnancy because you can’t have sex 😂😫

Hi, I created an account specifically so I could reply to you! Hope it's helpful.
Unfortunately the copper coil did make my periods much heavier and last slightly longer. Had it in for a year and had it taken out about a week ago.
They say its worse when you first have it fitted but settles down..
Personally I liked the fact that I didn't have to worry about contraception for at least 5 years but the periods are a bitch :-(
Hope it settles for you!

Ahhh that’s rubbish!! I’m hoping it settles. I have really bad periods anyway but not this bad! I can cope abit atm because of my moon cup but I can’t do this all the time!.

I had the same thing I had horribly heavy bleeding apparently it just doesn't agree with a certain percentage of women.

CurbsideProphet · 06/11/2018 08:35

I had a terrible time with the copper coil and my body expelled it after 9 ish months Confused I found that my GP, practice nurses, even a Gynaecologist weren't willing to say anything negative about the coil and said I was unusual for having problems with it Hmm

I hope it settles down soon. Are you booked to get it checked?

longtimelurkerfirsttimeposter · 06/11/2018 08:35

I'm on my period now and it's very heavy so I do feel your pain.
They do say it's one of the 'normal' possible effects so it's not anything sinister to worry about but sure is a pita!

CosyNights · 06/11/2018 08:38

My periods calmed down after a few months of getting the copper coil in. I'm excited today as I'm getting it removed to ttc dc2

Minniemountain · 06/11/2018 08:41

Mine were like that for a few months but settled down.

MimieD · 06/11/2018 11:39

Same problem for me for about 4-6 months but just when I thought of having it removed, periods settled to normal again so left it. That was nearly 5 years ago and still happy with it.

Butternutsqoosh · 06/11/2018 11:51

Mine settled after a couple of months and now 5 years into it they last about 4 days with only one day of heavy bleeding - and it's ALWAYS heavy for that one day, like soaking through etc
