I am sorry in advance for not knowing anything about what I need to find....

At some point, within the last few months, I read a book review in the Sunday Times Culture. It was a history book about possibly the Spanish civil war and got a rave review. It may also have been about a different war though. I need to get it for my husband.

Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about?

I'm probably on completely the wrong track, as this book was published a few years ago, but Victoria Hislop published a novel about the Spanish Civil War called The Return www.victoriahislop.com/the-return/. Many of her books are novels but with huge and accurate historical detail.

It wasn't that but thank you! It was non fic, published this year x

Hi Magair

It might or might not be on one of the pages below.

wiki.ezvid.com/best-war-history-books
www.maxhastings.com/2018/first-rave-reviews-for-vietnam/

Otherwise it might be worth giving them a ring and asking if they can help - their main number is 020 7782 5000 and I would be very surprised if they don't have some kind of database of the books they've reviewed this year, so the culture editor/editorial department might be able to help.

Unfortunately their site is behind a paywall so even using Google's excellent "search in site" option won't work for this one!

If you can remember any other details at all - publisher, author, even the picture on the cover - then amazon or waterstones might be a good search option too.

Good luck!

Could it have been about Vietnam, OP? This was published a couple of months ago and has a rave Sunday Times review:

Or Cold War? Ben MacIntyre The Spy and the Traitor?

Can you narrow down the time frame at all? Most ‘big’ history non fiction will have been published early October or possibly end of September to catch the Christmas trade. So you could trawl through Amazon searching by pub date.
